Surprising your lover with a proposal isn’t always easy. Usually there is a few secrets that have to be kept and some planning that has to go on without their help. But, for these eight couples, there was one extra step – organising a photographer to be there for the moment, without their partner clueing on to the surprise proposal they had planned.

1. Petra & Shari

Captured by Talitha Crawford Photography

Adventurous couple, Petra & Shari knew they were heading down to the beach for a few photographs to help expand photographer, Talitha Crawford‘s portfolio – what Petra didn’t know was that Shari was planning to ask her, ‘will you marry me?’ in a surprise proposal.

2. Megan & Sierra

Captured by Rebecca Rizzo Photographics

Sierra found the perfect ring for Megan and started brainstorming with photographer, Rebecca Rizzo, how she wanted to propose. She wanted it to be photographed, but the problem with that was that Megan knew Rebecca and they were worried if Megan saw Rebecca hiding in a coffee shop or something, it would give it away. That led to planning an elaborate styled shoot that Sierra and Megan would be my “models” for – the perfect cover for a surprise proposal.

3. Chey & Shophie

Captured by Amy Kate Photography

If your lover asked you to climb to the top of a mountain, and you were afraid of heights, would you? What Sophie didn’t realise was the adrenaline fulled outbursts and tears would have the most epic of rewards.

4. Jennifer & Jessica

5. Kelsi & Lucy

Captured by White Shutter Photography

This sunrise session, although early, meant that these two lovers, who met after an unexplainable Facebook friend request, started their day as newly engaged. Their shoot was a complete surprise for an unsuspecting Lucy and every detail was also captured in by videographer Zephyr Productions.

6. Ebony & Vicky

Captured by Erin Weir – Idlewild Photo Co

A scavenger hunt of sorts led Ebony down a winding path through the tall trees to where Vicky was waiting with a letter – a letter that ended with a proposal. After a teary and excited ‘YES’, followed by some celebratory kisses Ebony announced that she actually had something for Vicky as well – she pulled a ring box from her purse, got down on one knee and asked Vicky; ‘will you marry me?’.

7. Alysa & Joelle

Captured by Mac Olink

Alysa and Joelle decided to gift one another a photoshoot for a Christmas gift, instead of exchanging gifts. Joelle had not a clue that when Alysa kept asking her to look at the water that she was looking for the perfect frame to get down on one knee and have the photographer capture their beachside proposal.

8. Asha & Jess

Captured by Troy Freyee

On a warm night in October last year, Jess swept Asha up to their private hotel rooftop in Brisbane. Ready to propose to the love of her life.

Walking out onto the rooftop, sunsetting and ‘Magic’ by Coldplay being sung, Asha knew instantly what was going on – Jess’ cue to start crying.
