After 15 and a half years of love, Amanda and Luna decided to make things ‘official’, marrying in a low-key Melbourne ceremony.
How did you meet?
We met at a lesbian bar in Wellington, New Zealand, at the tail end of 2004. Amanda had just returned from working in the US and had only been in the country a week. Luna was studying art at a Wellington art institution and was living a pretty Bohemian lifestyle! We hung out as friends for a while before we started dating a few months later.
What is your favorite memory together?
We’ve traveled a lot in the past ten years and have so many fond memories of places we’ve been by ourselves and with friends and family. Amanda’s 50th birthday in Paris was pretty amazing, but our most recent trip to Crete in 2019 ranks as one of our all-time favorites.
It’s not always been easy though, what’s the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome together?
Amanda had breast cancer in 2014 and is still dealing with the challenges of this even now. Before that happened, we’d say our biggest challenge was probably up and moving from New Zealand to Adelaide in South Australia, but that was an exciting time as well. We love Australia and are so happy to be living here!
Tell us your favorite thing about one another.
L: I love Amanda’s intelligence and her wicked sense of humor. She’s very ambitious and driven, but also a lot of fun to be around. We have some great conversations. Life with her is never dull!
A: Luna is one of the kindest individuals I have ever met, but she also has a mind like a steel trap! She is a calming influence on my chaotic life and is just the most gorgeous, intelligent person.
We both feel like we are on different sides of the same coin – the Yin and the Yang. We are very different people but entirely complementary when we are together.
What’s in the future for you both?
We want to buy a property in Melbourne. We have a house in the Adelaide Hills, but Melbourne is really where it’s for us. We love the lifestyle and the opportunities to try new and different things. Luna is developing her career as an artist and would like to get to the point of doing that full-time. Amanda has excellent career options that are developing really well. We are both highly supportive of each other’s endeavors, and we each want the other to excel and be the best we can be.
We also plan to do a whole heap more travel together and perhaps some living and working overseas for short periods/sabbaticals. Eventually, we’d just like to just grow old together disgracefully, drinking G&T’s and Champagne in the garden, growing our own veggies, and rescuing as many animals as we can fit into wherever we are!
