Brittany & Martineja – A New Orleans Celebration

Brittany & Martineja – A New Orleans Celebration

Gay LGBTQ+ black couple celebrating their wedding in New Orleans USA

They planned their destination wedding in New Orleans from afar, but every detail of this celebration came together perfectly.

Tell us about the proposal.

Martineja proposed at Brittany’s 30th birthday party. The party was planned with Brittany’s knowledge, but friends helped make the proposal a surprise. Although we lived in Chicago at the time, Brittany’s friends flew in from all over to help make her birthday great and proposal a shock.

What are your favorite moments?

Our favorite moments were, by far, the moments leading up to the ceremony. Our first look was magical, and watching everyone arrive with smiles from all over just for us was amazing. At the end of the reception, people surprised us by jumping in the pool.

Everyone had a great time and is still talking about our big day.

Did you incorporate any family or religious traditions into the day?

We incorporated a memorial section that had names and pictures of family members who passed on. We wanted to honor them since we knew they would have been there to support us.

Advice for other couples planning a wedding?

Give yourself enough time to plan, save, and incorporate the things that mean the most to you both. Then, cherish the moments that make up that process, live in it, don’t rush, and remember your “why” when the process gets hard.

Anything you are glad you did? Or wish you didn’t do?

We are glad we opted for a destination wedding. Although we are now Nola residents, most of our family and friends have never been to the city. We got to create some amazing memories based on people exploring New Orleans and discovering why we fell in love with the city.
