Becka & Julianna – A Creative Engagement Shoot

Creative Engagment Shoot by Rainbow Road Studio

You can read more of Becka & Julianna’s love story here

Julianna and I met in fall of 2018 when I hosted a house show, and she played it. At the time I had a concussion and she was closeted. But because she was extra brave we are able to connect in the way we both wanted!

Since the last time we chatted, Julianna and I moved in together, got a dog, traveled abroad, and of course lived through this pandemic. And then Julianna proposed!

We went on a little picnic to our favorite spot in the park, we brought along tea and some new books to read aloud to each other. We designed an art piece to go in her studio. And then she asked if I wanted a treat she brought along (I always want a treat). She started pulling out lolly pops and asked if I wanted cherry, berry, or (with a ring box that looked like a lolly pop) to “marry me”? After saying what about 40 times, I said yes! We came home to a house full of friends and colorful decorations! We spent the night recapping our love story.

And then 2 weeks later, when our families were in town for one of her shows, I proposed to her. With a ring on top of a dipped soft serve cone.

So when we started planning our engagement shoot (with our friend and photographer and roommate), we knew it had to be just as colorful as our first shoot together, but show even more of who we are as a couple.

Julianna proposed we make it breakfast-centric, since we love making breakfast so much. I wanted some silly, almost victorian power portraits. And Cat brought her awesome creative eye.

What resulted was engagement photos like some I’ve never seen before, and that’s exactly what I wanted.
