Daisy & Debbie – A Wedding After 15 Years of Love

Daisy and Debbie met 21 years ago, but conservative families meant that they couldn’t be together. Eventually, years later, their love prevailed.

Tell us about the proposal.

The proposal was so magical. Daisy actually listened to me when I would talk about a perfect proposal and see others get proposed. It was at the beach in February of 2013. She gathered my closest family and friends to help her do a heart-shaped candle setup with rose petals saying “Marry Me?” in the San Pedro beach.

What led you to Blomgren Ranch?

We had planned to have our wedding at a garden venue in West Hills. Our hearts were completely put into the venue because it had the perfect setup and fabulous gardens. But, unfortunately, the venue canceled on us two months before the wedding, and we had very few options due to COVID restrictions. So we started seeking venues in our area, but none of them fit our needs.

Our first priority was having our fur baby at the wedding and a place for her to stay while we were at the party. We kept looking and only had two options, but they were quite far from our home compared to the venue we had initially decided on. So we were left with two options, and they were both so cute, but one of the locations had a terrifying road, and the other had so many opportunities within the venue.

We finally decided on Blomgren Ranch in the Barn area. Hector, the contact person at the venue, was excellent with offering us a better deal to rent out the garden area for the ceremony and the barn area for the reception.

We did spend a lot more on all vendors because the venue we initially had was closer, and they had more amenities. But the ranch we finally went with was perfect and magical in the end.

Did you undertake any DIY projects for the big day?

Debbie is very creative, and Daisy has an eye for details. We had our friends Alejandro Marquez, Edward Lepe, and Edlin Davila help her. Alejandro and Edward helped with a lot of decorations made for the wedding. Such as spray painting lanterns, creating backdrops, acrylic signs, painting, flower girls boho crowns, flower girls buckets, flower girls belts, napkin folding, placemats, party favors, ceremony aisle arrangements, fabrics, small dried arrangements, etc.

Talk to us about your experience finding the perfect outfits.

Daisy found her perfect outfit with Suitsmart in Downtown LA with the designer Giovanni Testi.

Debbie initially found her dress with David’s Bridal. But it did not look anything like the sample when she received the dress. She was devastated, and they allowed her to return it because they also agreed it did not look anything like the initial order.

She then went with their best friend Freddy Martinez to look around and ended up at Saint Alexis Bridal in Downtown LA. They told her they had availability in a few minutes to try on dresses. She tried on three and found the one she absolutely loved. She decided to order it even though her family was not with her as it was perfect. When she received the dress, it was exactly like the one she ordered, and she was delighted with her choice. Her family went with her the day of the last fitting and they absolutely loved her choice, and she was then ready to get married.

Talk to us about the big day!

The big day was a massive rush of emotions, happiness, excitement, love, and the most powerful feeling of finally becoming one. Debbie’s mom’s phone was left behind, one groomsmen’s tuxedo was left behind, and the ceremony had to be pushed back because we were running behind. But overall, it was a perfect day for two people to become one. The weather was beautiful, and everyone felt the love between the two of us.

What are your favorite moments?

Our favorite moments were the ceremony. We were both so nervous as none of our family had ever seen us kiss. At the moment, we both felt as if no one was around, and it was just her and I. It was a wonderful experience to only care about what we both felt and not worry about what others thought or if we would make them feel uncomfortable. We were just two people completely in love starting their life together as a married couple. The first dance was so magical we tuned out everyone and just danced away. We literally kissed the entire night and did not worry about anyone or anything. It was just us two enjoying our love.

Do you have a stand-out vendor?

Our most valuable moments were shared with Alejandro Marquez, our coordinator, and his husband, Edward Lepe. They helped us bring our vision and dream into reality. It was such a fantastic connection we gained with them on a deeper level of friendship and business. Debbie was afraid they would not be friends after the wedding because she has OCD and is too much of a perfectionist, and Daisy loves attention to detail. Still, we both put our entire trust in them and they outdid themselves with all they did for us to make our wedding perfect for us.

What does marriage mean to you?

Marriage is very important to us. We have fought so hard for the right to be legally married. And for a long time, we did not plan anything because we felt it was just an additional piece of paper. But in reality, it is the meaning of two souls who truly love each becoming one and telling the whole world it is their right to be treated exactly like every other married couple out in the world. We fought against our families to be accepted. So we both felt it was the right time to get married and have our families be part of such a momentous day for us.
