Daisy & Vanessa – A Disney Engagement Tale

How long have you been together, and how did you meet?

V: Daisy and I have been together for six years. We literally met on the playground! We worked together for an after-school program and became friends while on the job. Because we weren’t exactly “age/gender-appropriate” in society’s eyes, we kept things under wraps for quite some time. It wasn’t a smooth ride for the first two years, but we made it through and are stronger as a couple for it.

Tell us about the proposal.

V: We actually have proposed to each other two times each, for a total of four times! The first one was definitely the biggest and the most meaningful, but I’ll let Daisy share that story with you. As far as a discussion before the big day, yes, I had shared with Daisy what exactly it was that I wanted [since long before I met her], and she did not fail to deliver! I was speechless and so grateful for the great lengths she went to to make my dream come true.

D: Wow, this was not easy, but it was so thrilling to plan! I knew exactly what Vanessa wanted, and I knew I had to outperform her dream proposal.

It all started with the breakdown, the who, what, where, how? To have twenty-five people show up at Disneyland at a particular time, and to follow a plan was so nerve-wracking. But with the help of my two best friends, we made it happened.

I lied to Vanessa that I had a school project when, in reality, I was working on the “Will you marry me?” Disney font letters I was going to use for the big question! I also created a map for my friends and a description of the whole game plan!

Then the big day rolled around. It was just a regular Disneyland trip with a couple of our friends [plus 25 others]. Our twenty-five friends were hiding behind the castle until we made our way to the front of the castle. I made a video with multiple Disney movie mini clips that said a cute message about my dream girl. As she watched the video and stayed distracted, our friends made their way to the front of the castle, holding their big, bold letters up high! We had a crowd; I was so freaking nervous. She finally turned around, and her eyes were glowing and watery. She made her way to me, and I got on my knee. I asked she said YES!

The crowd went wild. It was so awesome.

Why Disneyland?

V: My dream engagement was always to be proposed to in front of the castle at Disneyland. I wanted my big princess moment in front of everyone! Having been fortunate enough to travel to Disneyland many times and throughout those numerous trips. I have seen the simple ‘down on one knee’ proposals during a Kodak moment capture or just as the fireworks were ending, but nothing could have matched what I was given.

It was a day I will never forget and a moment I will be forever grateful for.

How is wedding planning going? What do you hope for your wedding to be?

V: Wedding planning has been another roller coaster ride for us. Before the current state of the world went upside-down – our planning had been put on pause because we have been actively searching for a space of our own. We want to be living together before we get hitched!

What do we hope for, though? Nothing big. We want a party with those friends and family that mean the most to us. I want my best friend and or her sister to marry us. We want a taco guy, a fruit cup lady, and everyone to have a good time and celebrate with us.

The plan is to have the wedding on February 20 (or 21), 2021. A small ceremony on the beach, and the reception either in my backyard or at a decently priced venue. We have discussed elopement, but we for sure want to have the party at the end.

Any final words?

V: Our relationship hasn’t been easy, but like Daisy always reminds me [and I am aware], no relationship is; it takes work. I have been disappointed many times in the past – from family, friends, and romantic relationships – that it’s just easier for me to give up and walk away before I inevitably get hurt.

I never experienced the kind of unconditional love Daisy gives me, and I would not trade it for anything. She means so much to me, and I can’t wait to share the rest of my life with her!
