Dimity & Hayley – A Boho Wedding in McLaren Vale, South Australia

Two brides getting married in Adelaide South Australia

They describe their boho style McLaren Vale Wedding as ‘imperfectly perfect’ – a day to truly celebrate their love with supportive family and friends.

Tell us about the proposal.

Hayley had conspired with my best friend to get her to invite us to a mystery picnic at the beautiful Mclaren Vale that she ‘won’ in a work raffle. The downside was neither Hayley nor my best friend could lie. I also hate surprises, so I did my best detective work and suspected something must be up, so I sneakily packed a ring I had bought for Hayley just in case!

It was the best day to spend gathering wine and cheese for a picnic, and right at the end she knelt down and proposed, then about ten minutes later I surprised her with a proposal straight back – it was such a fun day!

Did you undertake any DIY projects for the big day?

A few little ones – my favorite being our record guest book where we upcycled old vinyl records from my Father in Law with custom labels and got all our guests to sign them in gold pen – they turned out so well! We also got our bridal party to collect all their gin bottles through the year and got a local flower stall to fill them with flowers to use for our reception.

Talk to us about your wedding day.

Despite a few stressors the day before – the day was imperfectly perfect! Despite running a little late (bound to happen with two brides), the weather turned out perfect, and the ceremony was so fun.

My favorite was our little surprise, where we drew our witnesses’ names out of a hat at the end of the ceremony.

My all-time favourite, though was watching our friends and family celebrate on the dance floor or by the fire pits. Everyone looked so happy and like they were having the best time, which is exactly what we wanted!

The downside was it did fly by so quickly.

What does marriage mean to you?

To be honest, being married doesn’t mean a lot to us – as to us, it felt like we had already made that commitment to forever. However, having a big celebration with our families and friends to thank them for supporting us was what we really wanted.
