When planning and designing weddings, we often find couples feel pressure to match their aesthetic to something that someone is telling them to be. Whether it’s family saying it needs to be formal, Instagram telling them it should be light and airy, or a venue that says it needs to be on a farm and rustic. It goes against who we are as designers at our core. There are a million ways a couple can collaborate their personality with any space and make their wedding as special and unique as they are. This shoot was all about celebrating that unique love.

Our muses, a real couple named Rebecca and Maya, were bursting at the seams with personality. Their natural beauty, edgy style, glamourous demeanor, and queer love were all things that needed to be celebrated.

Step 1, we filtered down their style into three words – bold, glamourous, and edgy. This drove all the details we picked and helped ensure everything has synergy. The fuchsia and purples were bold but still soft and glamourous. The black and white patterns and disco ball textures were edgy and fun and contributed a modern beauty to their palette.
Finding the right color and texture palette can help couples through the design process, giving them clear direction while navigating décor options that are within budget.

The next step in our design process was blending in the beauty of the venue. We were so lucky to collaborate with Connemara House. Which offers acres of natural beauty on their grounds and historic charm. While historic and modern don’t usually go hand in hand, the key is identifying locations that blend within your palette OR offer a unique juxtaposition. For us, the beautiful white brick walls on their porch were the perfect backdrop for our sweetheart portraits. A fun, modern blend. The ornate fireplace, white crown molding and light blue walls in the dining room pairs with our tablespace’s modern design to provide an elevated look. Blending historic New England architecture with a contemporary palette.

In repeating this mindset through all of their portrait locations, often the couple themselves representing a modern fixture against historic charm. We could blend their personalities into a not-so-obvious match of a venue for a shoot that made them feel glamorous, edgy, and most importantly – totally themselves.
