Words by Planner & Celebrant Michelle, from The Wild Hitcher.
According to the law in Australia, ‘ Marriage is the union of two people, to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life’…
It has been thirty-seven months since I first saw these words change, but the hitch in my breath right before I get to speak them in a ceremony hasn’t changed at all – maybe it never will.
What I hope has changed, though, is the need for couples to ‘come out’ to their vendors every time they reach out to engage someone for their services. I can’t even count the number of times I was asked about my future husband when planning our New Zealand nups in 2017.
We as a community give grace ALL THE TIME. When I imagined this shoot and the team that would help give it life, I imagined folks that wouldn’t require grace when it came to misgendering or making assumptions about a person’s partner. Just quietly, the team of legends that came together was better than even my wildest dream.
Tucked away in the Byron Bay hinterland, on beautiful Nyangbul land sits Paddock Hall, the location for our dreamy shoot. Hannah and her family have curated the most incredible space, and it was from there, our key styling inspiration was born. The rusts, creams, and soft pinks found in our floral installation were imagined from the internal furnishings at Paddock Hall. And the hat, which Jess from Little Pampas House gave a whole lotta love, is my fave part of this whole thang.
Words by couple Lauren & Teegan.
Our favorite memory together would have to be our engagement at Machu Picchu. We had been traveling for about five months through Canada, Central, and South America. We had been waiting to visit Machu Picchu for so long.
Lauren had been carrying the ring around our entire trip, and Teegan had no idea!
Lauren adores everything about Teegan, but if she had to pick, Teegan’s kind and adventurous heart is her favorite thing about her.
For Teegan, it’s Lauren’s kind heart and patience that wins her over time and time again. Lauren has the capacity to love everyone.
