Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
We live in Denver, Colorado, and love the outdoors. In our free time, we love to go hiking, fishing, snowshoeing, and camping with our little adventure buddy, our dog Becket!
Kelly works as an addiction counselor at a residential substance abuse treatment center, and Holly works as a product manager at Pearson.
We have been together for five and a half years and married for five months. We met on Tinder, and both swiped right! On our first date, we went to Biker Jim’s and a Rockies game. The rest was history. We both made sacrifices to see each other, and eventually, Kelly moved in with Holly in South Denver.
Tell us about the proposal.
Kelly proposed to Holly at Zion National Park at Observation Point. We love national parks and always do our best to visit new ones every year. Zion is about nine hours from Denver, and Kelly had a plan to propose that very first night. As soon as we arrived in Zion, we set up our campsite and drove to the Observation Point Trailhead. At the viewpoint, Kelly set up her camera, which was not totally unusual. Little did Holly know that Kelly was setting up the camera to record the proposal. Kelly got down on one knee and proposed. Holly said, yes!
That sounds picture perfect!! How did you both find your experience picking the perfect outfits?
Kelly wanted a more modest wedding dress. She shopped around at David’s Bridal and online shops and didn’t find anything that stood out to her. She finally found the dress of her dreams on LatterDayBride.com, which is kind of funny because she grew up Catholic. It was the perfect dress, though!
Initially, Holly thought she wanted to wear a dress until she tried a few on at David’s Bridal and almost had a panic attack!! She ended up finding a beautiful outfit that consisted of navy dress pants and a white blouse. She was absolutely stunning on the big day.
With you both loving the outdoors, is that what lead you to the venue and theme?
Holly grew up visiting family in Creede, Colorado, which is about a four and a half-hours drive from Denver. We visit Creede three to four times a year, and it is one of our favorite places! Beautiful scenery, small mountain town. Sunnyside Chapel is a quaint chapel located on the hillside in Creede.
Kelly wanted to get married in a church and incorporate Christian aspects into the wedding. The first time she saw the church, she said (in her head) said, “That church is beautiful. It would be a dream to get married there.” So when it came time to select a wedding venue, this was a no brainer.
We are notorious for enjoying the outdoors together and wanted our wedding to reflect that. Camping is one of our favorite things to do, so we had a camping themed wedding. We also incorporated a LOT of DIY projects, the signs, centerpieces, beer boat, smores bar, etc.
Talk to us about the big day!
It went by so fast. So Fast! But it also was the perfect day.
From the very start, we knew we wanted our family to be involved in our special day. Both parents walked us down the aisle. Holly’s sisters were in the wedding party, and both of Kelly’s siblings were in the wedding party too.
We had family members and friends travel from all over the U.S. to help us celebrate, which we are forever grateful for! One of Kelly’s elderly relatives made the trip to Colorado from Florida. This was a big deal because he just found out that he was in remission from brain cancer. It was really special to have him there. Unfortunately, he passed away a few months later.
Throughout the day, our photographer EJ Dilley was AMAZING in so many ways! She made us feel comfortable and helped keep us on our timeline. The photos are stunning; she captured our special day perfectly!
Our wedding ceremony was late afternoon, and it looked like it was going to storm, but it didn’t (we dodged a bullet). The weather was really perfect – a beautiful fall day in the mountains.
We partied into the night with speeches, father-daughter dances, and our first dance, ending with a sparkler exit- all to be never forgotten!
