Their shared love for fitness brought Jenny & Sarah together and after a perfect first date that included an evening hot chocolate followed by a late night window shop at my favourite second-hand bookshop their love has continued to blossom.
On a random Wednesday afternoon, Sarah asked Jenny to go for a road cycle, but Jenny didn’t want to go. So, they compromised and took the mountain bikes to the local lookout in Hamilton (NZ) for a picnic. Together they head up quite a few large hills to the top of the lookout and Sarah set up a little blanket and positioned the bikes nicely, for an Instagram moment of course!
Not too soon after, Jenny had a ring out asking Sarah to spend the rest of their lives together. Sarah was in a little shock and surprise, but of course said, yes!
Their engagement lasted a little more than an year after initially they set out to have a two-year engagement – they quickly realised they couldn’t wait that long!
Jenny & Sarah’s family don’t live nearby, so the two brides-to-be chose a venue that was close to their families. It happened to be 6 hours from where they live and distance did make some planning a little tricky. However, the countryside of Wairarapa captured their hearts, and the perfect venue was found.
The pair knew that they wanted something that was more formal, but also had a bit of a country feel to it. They chose long navy gowns for the bridesmaids, greenery in the bouquets and table settings and tied the theme together with soft, elegant jazz music.
Sarah found dress shopping rather easy. She knew exactly what she wanted. The third dress she tried on was the one – and Sarah knew it before she’d even left the changing room!
Jenny is a lover of jumpsuits and so got a local seamstress to make one based on another that she already owned, and it was perfect.
“Our photographers Tim Kelly and Nadine Ellen were awesome! I found them on Instagram. I loved everything about their work. It was perfect that they were free on the date we had chosen.
We went with the local florist, Beverly, from Tree Top Flowers. Beverly new the venue well which made things so easy.
Our celebrant was Verna from Standing in the Light Celebrations, after a meet and greet over a coffee in Greytown we knew she was the lady to marry us. She is so warm, caring and poetic.
Lastly was our DJ, Andy from Hype Entertainment. He was recommended to us by the venue and man was he good! He also came three hours early which was perfect as there was a landslip on the Rimutaka Hills late in the evening which meant he could have missed the wedding.”
On their wedding day they woke up to a glorious day, not a cloud in the sky. Sarah’s favourite moment was walking back down the aisle, with Jenny as her wife, to Beyonce’s Love on Top. Jenny loved the moment when together they exchanged rings.
The signing song was an instrumental of The Revelation Song. Sarah had always dreamt of having a worship song at her wedding day. The day was so important to her and she knew that she wanted a part of Jesus in their too.
Marriage to Jenny & Sarah is loyalty, fun, teamwork and most of all, love. To them, it’s a simple thing that means the world to them. They each have a traditional view of marriage, just with two women. Jenny also believes that it means on-demand foot and shoulder massages!
Jenny & Sarah both changed their last name to a completely different name. It was something they had thought of for a long time. Originally, Sarah was going to change her name to Jenny’s, but in time Jenny felt that she wanted to change her name too.
They are Mrs & Mrs George now.
George was chosen as it is Jenny’s Mother’s maiden name. Jenny asked her grandparents for their blessing to use their name, and, of course, they were touched and said yes.
