Jewlz & Mel – Eloping with Children

T’was love at first sight. Secretly, I think I always knew that I was in love with Mel the first time I saw her. She is truly the most beautiful person I have ever met, both inside and outside. Her radiance shines brightly.

I met Mel in the cycle studio, where she was the instructor. Feeling myself blush when she glanced my way and constantly noticed my eyes wandering over her strong, fit beautiful body. I had never felt this way for a woman before, and I wanted to tell her how I felt.

Despite pushing the feelings aside for as long as I could, it was too hard to resist. So I ended up sending Mel a message telling her that I thought she was beautiful. I had no idea if she was married, in a relationship, interested in men or women! All I knew was that I had to tell her.

Mel replied, very sullenly – maybe that’s not quite the right word but something similar. I was so embarrassed and told her I was sorry and vowed never to do another of her cycle classes again. Low and behold, it wasn’t too long before Mel asked me for coffee. I recall telling Mum that she asked me for coffee, and I said, “what do I do!” Mum replied, “go and have coffee!”

We had the most beautiful walk on the beach together that day. And we felt that we enjoyed each other’s company so much it was hard to leave and were falling in love. We had both been married previously to men, and I had two beautiful daughters who were more than understanding of our love and have blessed us wholeheartedly the entire relationship despite the ‘stigma’ sometimes surrounding same-sex couples. Their friends, schoolmates, and other family members completely embraced our newfound love.

I recall the need to confide in my feelings for Mel to my Mum initially. As she voted NO to gay marriage. She saw the gleam in my eye. The goosebumps on my skin when I mentioned the feelings that arose in me when I saw this beautiful lady. “It’s not like you to have feelings like this for a woman,” she said in disbelief. Mum has since been very supportive of our relationship and is over the moon that her daughter is now the happiest she has been in her entire life.

The more time I spent with Mel, long walks on the beach, exploring the waterfalls and bushland in our area, dining together, sitting, and chatting, the more our feelings grew for each other. And then she kissed me. Every moment that I spend with this incredible lady fills my heart with joy. I am so grateful that I found my forever person, my soul mate, my forever girl. Every second, my heart overflows with love for my queen.

Mel proposed to me on the side of our favourite headland two years after our first date. I nearly fell off the side of the cliff! I was so sure I would be the one to propose! It was so perfect, as she lay a soft picnic blanket out on the fluffy grass. Poured us both a glass of champagne, and fed me seafood. Mel knelt on one knee and asked me to be her forever girl, her princess, her adventure partner. And of course, I said yes!

After an emotional proposal, we lay back on the blanket and enjoyed a show of hundreds of fireflies, of which she said she had ordered just for the occasion.

The most beautiful and happiest day of my life was our wedding day, November 26th, 2020. We were initially planning our big day in New Zealand, eloping to the north island on the Coromandel Peninsula. Unfortunately, our plans were interrupted by Covid, but good things came out of the change, which meant we were able to include our two girls in the celebration.

Our choice to elope wasn’t because we didn’t want our family there. Our decision was made because we wanted to get married for ‘us.’ This was solely about ‘us’ and our commitment to each other. As lovely as it would have been to share our special day, we have no regrets about eloping on our special headland with our most favourite people in the world. It truly was the best day of my life, full of sun, sand, saltwater, and surprises. Mel lights up our lives and fills our hearts to overflowing. Pure happiness.
