Katie & Molly – A Birthday Photoshoot turned Proposal

Lesbian Outdoor Proposal - Dancing With Her - Garnet Dahlia Photography

Katie knew that a proposal was coming, and when Molly mentioned she’d planned a photoshoot for her birthday she had an inclining that it might be time. Still, she was so surprised by the photoshoot turned proposal by a lake in Pennsylvania, she burst out in laughter!

Tell us about how your love story began.

K & M: We have been together for about three years. We met through mutual friends about ten years ago. We were close friends for a couple of years before dating, but we both were in different relationships. When those relationships ended around the same time, we found comfort in each other’s company and realized we had deeper feelings for each other.

Molly, how did you go about planning the proposal?

M: I knew I wanted the proposal to be photographed so we could look back on that special moment forever. I also wanted the location to be special. The lake is a place we’ve been going to together since we started dating.

I knew all along that was where I was going to ask her to be my wife.

Tell us about the proposal! We want all the juicy details!

K: Everyone asks me if I knew it was coming, and the answer to that is yes and no.

We had discussed getting engaged over the past year, but I had no idea when it would happen. Molly told me about a month before that date to not plan anything because she had something planned for my birthday.

Still, I didn’t suspect anything.

About a week before the date, she told me she had a photoshoot booked for us at one of our favorite spots with Vicki, who has shot us before. That tipped me off a little, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up, so I tried to put it out of my mind.

We walked around a little, taking some initial shots before getting to the most beautiful spot around the lake. Shortly after we stopped, Molly asked if she could read me a little poem she wrote for me. So, she read the poem, and the last line was, “will you marry me?”

I was so overwhelmed with joy that I started hysterically laughing. Molly then started laughing too, and we were both just so overtaken by the moment.

How did you go about finding the perfect ring?

M: I knew all along what the perfect ring for Katie would be. When I finally decided to buy, I did a lot of research about where to buy the best moissanite engagement rings. After careful consideration, I went with the True Gem Company, located in Dallas, TX.

The entire experience was virtual, so naturally, I was nervous. However, True Gem was an absolute pleasure to work with.

What’s next?

K & M: After the engagement, nothing has changed except beginning the wedding planning process.

We’ve only just begun, but at the moment, we are leaning heavily towards having a small, backyard wedding/party with around 75 people in the Spring of 2022.

M: It feels important to me to mention how much fun we have together and how much we make each other laugh. It’s a beautiful thing, being able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend who truly gets every part of me and who I constantly can share a laugh with.
