Lilah & Taleisha – A Modern Luxe Wedding Day

Modern Luxe Lesbian Wedding - The Calile Brisbane - Daphne Sky Studios Photography

When Taleisha took a job across the country, three weeks after they met, Lilah new what they had was something special and followed Taleisha on the move. Three years later, they hosted a small modern luxe wedding day in Brisbane, Australia.

Tell us about your modern luxe wedding day

L: The night before the wedding, I had a piece of popcorn stuck behind my tonsil, and no brushing could get that piece out. The morning of, it still wasn’t out, and I was freaking out. It’s my wedding day and all I could think about was the piece of popcorn!

Hair and makeup arrived, and I calmed down. It still wasn’t setting in that it was happening. I was surprisingly quite calm. Little did I know as soon as I put the dress on, I would start hyperventilating!

I made my way down to the ceremony with our wedding planner Kate, my absolute savior, waiting right outside the ceremony for the moment when the song would start. I was about to burst into tears, and someone had to run and get me water because I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I jokingly said to Taleisha a few times, if you’re not crying when I walk down the aisle, I’m turning around. But she was in tears ten minutes before I even came out.

It was a very emotional day, I was crying walking down the aisle, she was crying, everyone was crying, and it hadn’t even started yet!

She’s not the best at writing down her feelings, but her vows stole the show. They were so personal, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room, including the celebrant and photographer.

After the reception, we went to our room and ordered pizza on Uber Eats, representing us perfectly.

It was such a magical day!

Do you have a standout vendor?

T: It’s so hard to say, Erin our celebrant is so special to us now. We couldn’t have had a better celebrant that made our ceremony so beautiful and personal. Everyone was talking about how lovely she was and how cool she is.

Daphne the photographer was also such a dream to work with, the first time we met was on the wedding day, and she made us feel so comfortable. She calmed me down so much before the ceremony, and I didn’t even notice her taking photos at the ceremony!

Kate, the wedding coordinator from The Calile, was so perfect. She was always right by my side, calming me, making sure I was okay, making everything perfect, and just being the best.

Advice for other couples planning a wedding?

T: You can’t make everyone happy. There will always be people trying to get in the way, but do your best not to let it get to you. Focus on your person because that’s all that matters. And praise your vendors, without them you wouldn’t have a wedding!

I’m also so glad we had a small wedding rather than having a big one with people who don’t know much about us or haven’t been apart of our journey.

What does marriage mean to you?

T: It means being secure, always having that one person to spend the rest of your life with. It means shits getting serious, and there is no getting rid of each other. It means the start of the rest of our lives that we are so excited to see where it takes us.
