Who is Elleni Toumpas?

I am a photographer who has been running my own business for over 10 years. I have a Greek-Cypriot heritage so I love food, connection and capturing special moments between family and friends. As a lesbian woman, I am so excited that I now get to capture the profound and enduring love of my own community.

Why wedding photography?

I am in love with love. No seriously, in a world where there is so much injustice, sadness and heartache, I love to be surrounded by love and being reminded of what matters most in the world, human connection, the love of another human being, the support of family and friends and of course who doesn’t love a party? But seriously, I feel really privileged to do my job.

On a wedding day, the couple spend as much time with me as they do with each other, they place their trust in me and I get to capture these amazing,
beautiful moments between two people who are making this profound commitment. For LGBTIQ couples this commitment is even more profound because of what we have had to go through to be able to get to this point. I just love my job and I can tell you it is not unusual for a happy tear to escape my eye from time to time while shooting a wedding.

How would you describe your photography style?

“Raw emotion, moody, romantic and creative without the cheese.”

What is your favourite moment to capture?

I can’t decide. It is just any authentic moment. Or even the moment AFTER the traditional moment. Yes, the first kiss is great, it is expected. But I am addicted to that moment that comes after it. The authentic excitement or the little tear that happens when you think the camera is no longer looking.

When you’re not being the lens, what do you love to do?

Spending time with my girlfriend, our two grey cats and planning our next adventure.
