Meet, My Little Peony

My Little Peony caravan bar florist stylist Sydney New South Wales Dancing With Her (1)

The team behind My Little Peony does it all – styling, flowers, cakes, and signage. The team will even bring a pop-up caravan bar for the reception. But, it’s time you met the people behind the business.

Who is My Little Peony, and what do you do?

We’re a small family team of creatives (Yep mother, daughter, and carpenter wife) who like to think we are a bit different because we don’t just offer a single stand-alone service for our client’s celebrations. Instead, we bring together a range of talents and services to plan, design, style, and execute a day that our couples and their guests will love.

We offer floral and event design, bar service with our vintage caravan bar Peony, pop-up drink stations, cocktail bars, wedding cakes, desserts and grazing tables, custom signage and prop hire, plus on the day set up and coordination. Why would we want to take on so much? We strongly believe all the small parts of a wedding make the whole experience and we like to offer our clients a stress-free option to have everything they want on the day without having to manage multiple vendors to bring it all together. Our team gets to know the couple and their style and then go to work to plan and design a day that suits them and celebrate their unique love.

Describe your design aesthetic.

We want to think that we aren’t tied to one particular aesthetic but are more flexible and adaptable to bring to life our clients’ vision.

Whether it’s a rustic barn setting, a cottage garden, or even a sleek, modern, or industrial location, we’ve worked in pretty all of them. We feel confident in executing something different each week! For us, it’s more about understanding who our couples are, what they love (and loathe) and creating a setting and mood that reflects them and allows their guests to soak up everything ‘them’ on the big day.

There must be a standout, you’ll never forget, wedding you’ve styled. Describe it to us.

Arrgh, don’t make us choose!

We’ve been to over 200 + weddings in the past two-three years and they’re all so different and fun! We really could write a book full of the antics that go on behind the scenes!

One recent one that comes to mind though, was out in country New South Wales about a three-hour drive from where we’re based. The gorgeous bride gave us so much creative freedom to plan her color palette, styling vibe, and floral brief to bring to life spaces that represented her and her partner.

It was a lush and romantic wintery vibe. A mammoth job for our team, as we were covering everything from florals, styling, signage, prop hire and furniture, grazing tables, the wedding cake, and the post-ceremony bar service.

We had every single minute of the day mapped out and planned to a tee. And then, the storm clouds rolled in. Our poor bride had her heart set on getting married outside by the properties’ gorgeous dam. Thanks to the weather, we had to tell her that wasn’t going to happen. That’s always a hard conversation to have on someone’s wedding day!

Fortunately for us, this venue has the most incredible shearing shed onsite. Think large timber beams, striking sliding barn doors, old vintage machinery detailing and a classic hardwood floor – a real photographers’ dream. After convincing the bride, we’d make sure it was an ‘extra special’ indoor ceremony for them and her photos would still be stunning. We rushed around to relocate everything, styled up a storm [no pun intended] with hundreds of bunches of blooms on a large ceremony arch, added vintage Persian rugs, candles to set the mood and a heck of a lot of rose petals.

It was a wet weather plan we had to make the most of. Still, the guests were warm and dry, the ceremony went off precisely as planned and after the ‘i do’s,’ we checked in with the bride. She even commented it was more magical than she could have dreamt and should have been her original plan for the ceremony, not the backup because it turned out so well. We even had the venue staff say it was one of the best weddings they had ever seen, which is a pretty big honour as we know they see so many different setups every week – did we mention we love what we do!!

If you have a wedding free weekend, where would we find you?

Oh, they’re few and far between these days, especially in the prime wedding months when we do three-four weddings per week!

If we have a day off though, you’d most likely find us either having long-overdue catch-ups with family and friends. Or maybe visiting some of our favorite places around Sydney like Cockatoo Island. Tegan might be watching the wife play sport on a Sunday, and Gail would be shopping up a storm somewhere.
