After a year and a bit engaged, Megan and Rebecca locked in the date for their February wedding in December. So there was no time to get stressed or muck about.
Streat Melbourne held host to Megan and Rebecca’s low key love party. With it’s perfect outdoor and indoor areas, greenery, and their social programs for youth and those experiencing some disadvantages meant it felt ‘right.’ It was a conscious choice to have the majority of their wedding budget support the social enterprise cafe.
The lovers were passionate about keeping everything wedding-related within their beloved Collingwood postcode. Which meant that the entire wedding happened within a few blocks of their home.
Dress shopping was easy. Bec knew she wanted to wear black and found her Lady Gaga inspired dress in a second-hand store. A black cape handcrafted by Nicolangela brought it all together. Megan initially found her sparkly number online and had a helping hand from Nicolangela to ensure that alterations were completed in the small timeframe. Even over Christmas break!
They each wanted a first look in their huge warehouse-style Airbnb before heading out to Collingwood’s streets for photographs. Once done, the lovers and their family and friends head down to Evies Bar. Arriving just in time for a drag show and the weekly screening of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It was an unplanned stop but one that added a whole lot of fun to the day.
Megan and Rebecca’s parents each walked them to the start of the aisle, and they finished the walk together. Their vows were personal, short, and simple.
From there, they went straight into eating, drinking, and dancing!
Secretly the couple had been taking dancing lessons together, so guests were surprised to have the dance floor led by the newlyweds dancing to ‘Say You Love Me’ by Fleetwood Mac.
It’s something that they’d recommend to couples; it meant they learned something new together, something that pushed them both outside their comfort zone. Megan and Rebecca both think they’ll continue dancing when they get the chance.
Their advice to couples planning their wedding day: “Do what you want! You don’t need to have a big bridal party, formal seating, flowers if you don’t want to. We also stopped and had some quiet time alone during the day to take a minute together, check we are okay, and be in the moment.”
