To understand where my love of photographing weddings originated, we need to return to my own wedding day. Mandy and I were living in Edinburgh at the time so needless to say, it was raining the morning of our wedding day. We had officially tied the knot in front of immediate family and a handful of best friends at the registry office and the day after was a big party in a historic village hall to celebrate the occasion.
There was a bouncy castle. There was a bucking bronco. Wildflowers were gathered locally and a country feast was laid out for all to share in. There were no assigned seats. The hall was full of laughter and music and by the end of the night, I was in jeans and a singlet, dancing the night away under a full moon.
It was perfection in the most non-perfect way and there's not a thing we would change.
The couples I work with today, prioritise the commitment they are making to one another above all else. They value the time they spend with the people that they love the most. After the last guest has left, they sit down together - exhausted - and say "this was the best day of our lives". They sit down together, years and years later, and say "we still wouldn't change a thing".
