A Cottage Wedding By The Coast In Maine

Kayla and Meredith knew that they wanted an intimate wedding somewhere beautiful. No one place felt like home, so they considered all the places they had grown to love. They decided to get married in a cottage just big enough for their families on the coast of Bailey Island in Maine.

The Start of their Love Story

Kayla, a doctor in anesthesia residency, and Meredith, a math professor, met during their college days where they were both student athletes. They started dating after six months of being good friends and have been together for seven and a half years now.

One of their favorite memories is New Year’s 2019-2020, where they stayed at a cabin in Gualala, CA, and made sushi and went for a beautiful walk along the cliffs. For Meredith, the first time she took Kayla camping was another special moment, as they hung out by the ocean, went for a walk, made a fire, and spent the weekend laughing.

A Proposal to Remember

Kayla proposed first in December of 2020 at World’s End State Park in Hingham, MA, by handing Meredith a scrapbook she had made, and asking the question at the end of it. Meredith proposed later in the summer of 2021 while they were camping in the redwoods of northern California.

The Week Long Wedding Vacation

The wedding was a week-long vacation for both families, and the lead-up was filled with fun, including a giant Jenga game that resulted in lots of laughter, declaring victories, and demanding rematches.

Their actual wedding day was incredibly relaxing, starting with a brunch made by Meredith’s dad and getting ready together. Their ceremony was in the house’s living space, officiated by Erika and included a ring blessing and reading notes from friends. After the ceremony, they had a champagne toast and dinner catered.

Their advice for other couples planning a smaller wedding is to focus on what will enhance their day, search for unconventional solutions, and not be afraid to keep things minimal and unplanned.
