Susan & Tess – Celebrating Rain on the Wedding Day

Gay lesbian wedding on the beach in Wollongong New South Wales Australia captured by Joel Quinn Photography

I proposed to Susan first, even though I said I would let Susan propose, but I couldn’t help myself. I ended up proposing to Susan on their birthday at this beautiful cabin in the Blue Mountains in the middle of nowhere. I started by setting up candles and flowers around the wood fire and gave her birthday presents to open, then said I had a letter to read to her, and then I started crying so much and asked her to marry me!

Talk to us about the wedding day!

It was the most magical day! The rain changed a few things around as we were supposed to have everything outside on the deck, but it ended up being fantastic. I wish we could relive it over and over. Susan and I wrote letters to each other in the morning and gave each other a few gifts.

Susan’s reaction to me walking down the aisle was the best when she dropped to her knees! We were both very emotional during our vows, but they were perfect.

We then had two hours of photos between reception, which was so intimate and special.

At the reception, Susan sang to me as a surprise! It was amazing and so beautiful. I cried like a baby! The whole day felt like a dream, and we couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces! We had about 75 guests, which was perfect as it was really close and intimate with our closest friends and family.

What does marriage mean to you?

Marriage means to us having a best friend in your forever person, working together through life to make the most of the years together. Having fun with your partner and being silly, making our own rules with no tradition, and just being ourselves with each other.
