Queer, Native Mexican American Owned

Hawthorn Photography

Documentary photographer working with film and digital formats to capture the unique voices of a wedding day.

I am a documentary wedding photographer drawn to shadow and light, mythology and nature, and the quiet revelations of belonging. I shoot hybrid on film and digital and revel in the true and deep connections of all my couples. My soul belongs to the mountains.

Growing up in the foothills of the Adirondacks, I spent summers wandering the woods, camping under the stars, and falling in love with the natural world. That connection never left me, and now it shapes the way I see and document love — as something elemental, something ancient, something meant to be remembered.

I learned how to see the world through my dad’s photography—through patience, light, and quiet observation. As an adoptee with Mexican Native American roots, my connection to nature is also shaped by ancestry, land, and memory. Photography became a bridge between these ways of knowing.

As a queer, BIPOC woman, I know what it feels like to search for spaces that feel safe. My work is rooted in honoring love across genders, cultures, bodies, and identities. Your story deserves to be documented with dignity and depth. Hate has no place in my work.

What’s your go-to gear or tool at a wedding?

My light meter! I can’t shoot film with out it.

Where would we find you and what would you be doing after a wedding weekend?

I would be in the woods of my property, or tending to our garden and livestock.

Do you collect anything?

Oracle decks, crystals, and bones(ethically sourced, of course!)
