A Colorado Mountain Elopement

This Colorado mountain elopement was every bit planned as it was perfect. From hiking to the summit with backpacks and wedding attire strapped to them to the ceremonial lighting of a joint as newlyweds.

LaTasha connected with the organizer who ran a monthly art show in our neighborhood. She had Sarah believe she was in the art show. LaTasha set up a photo backdrop before the event started and hired a photographer to play along as if it was part of the show. We walked in, and the photographer guided us to pose for pictures in front of the backdrop. When Sarah turned around, LaTasha grabbed the ring and dropped to her knee. Sarah was very surprised!!

Talk Us Through The Decision To Elope.

We wanted a ceremony that was intimate and personal, something that was just between us that didn’t have so much of the noise that often comes with a traditional wedding.

We actually told all of our family beforehand. It wasn’t a last-minute or surprise wedding. It was planned. So they already knew and sent love from afar on the wedding day. Sarah’s parents even crashed at the end of the elopement to congratulate us after the hike.

It was incredible. We had a bit of a hike to get up the mountain and had our outfits strapped to our backpacks. Once we got to the top, we got dressed with incredible 360-degree views of the mountains. We climbed up on some of the rocks and enjoyed the day while our girl gang photographer and videographer prepped for the ceremony. Once the sun started to set, we exchanged rings and vows…and cried a lot. Once we composed ourselves, we had a “joint lighting” to conclude the ceremony (because when in Colorado). We spent some time taking pictures and soaking in the day, then hiked down the mountain to do a first dance in the twilight.
