An Adventurous and Rugged Elopement in the Mojave Lava Tubes

Nicole and Sydney’s styled elopement in the Mojave National Preserve, among the Mojave Lava Tubes, was nothing short of magical, an adventure that perfectly captured their free-spirited love. We chose this unique location for its raw beauty and the sense of solitude it offered- just them, the expansive desert, and their love story.

What was the inspiration behind this styled Mojave Lava Tubes elopement?

We wanted to create an adventurous and rugged elopement that included hiking, off-roading, camping, and a super unique location. We were inspired by nature and our outdoorsy spirits – and wanted to show a different perspective on elopement that prioritizes the experience over tradition.

Why did you choose the Mojave National Preserve as the elopement location?

We chose the Mojave National Preserve for its seclusion and diverse landscape, featuring dormant volcanoes and rugged terrain. An off-road campsite surrounded by lava rocks added a unique touch to the elopement setting. This location provided a perfect backdrop for an adventurous and intimate elopement.

Describe the elopement day.

Their day began with an exploration into one the caves of the Lava Tube. With headlamps lighting our way, we shared laughs as we went deeper into the cavern in search of a cutout of sun. Nicole and Sydney had this playful idea to throw dirt into the air, creating a misty, almost ethereal ambiance for their portraits. The photos turned out stunning, with the light from their headlamps casting a warm glow on their faces, surrounded by a soft, natural haze.

Next, they journeyed on a walk around the Preserve’s extinct volcanoes. It was a sight! They found joy in the simple act of walking hand in hand, marveling at the stunning landscape around them. It was as though we had been transported to an Icelandic haven.

The couple’s love for adventure shone through as they went off-roading to their campsite, nestled amidst lava rocks. This wasn’t just any campsite; it was a secluded spot we found on a map, a place that felt like it was waiting just for them. Surrounded by rugged terrain, they set up their tent and heated up their gourmet Top Ramen meals.

As the day neared its end, we captured sunset photos above the lava rocks we scrambled to climb. The timing of this styled elopement was impeccable – orange wildflowers were in full bloom, creating a vivid layout of colors. Nicole and Sydney looked radiant standing in the center opening as though the flowers had intentionally left this spot for them. The sunset cast highlighted the orange and red hues of the desert. Nicole and Sydney shared a kiss that seemed to encapsulate their entire journey- adventurous, romantic, and authentically them.
