Queer couple walking through tulip fields in Amsterdam

A Colorful Amsterdam Tulip Field Elopement

Between rows of red tulips and golden sunlight, two Cajun women from South Louisiana, Laney (she/her) and Lindsay (she/her), exchanged vows surrounded by the color and calm of the Dutch countryside. They traded a traditional wedding for something slower, more personal, and rooted in intention.

Their Amsterdam elopement was captured beautifully by Arielle Frioza Photography, unfolding like a quiet adventure in full color.

How did your story begin?

Weโ€™re both true Cajuns from South Louisiana, raised just minutes apart but somehow never met growing up. Same restaurants, same festivals, same small-town circles โ€“ our paths just never crossed.

That changed when I moved back home to care for my mom before her surgery. Lindsay, a surgical nurse, happened to be part of her care team. That surgery led me straight to her, and thankfully, my momโ€™s doing great! From that moment, our connection felt easy and extraordinary.

After eight months of long-distance (me in Oklahoma, Lindsay in Lafayette), she took the leap, leaving her job, her family, and everything familiar to start our life together. Now weโ€™re at home in Oklahoma, cooking gumbo, cuddling with our dogs, and laughing about how we probably passed each other a hundred times as kids. It feels like fate finally tied the string between us.

Why a Tulip Field Elopement in the Netherlands?

We wanted our wedding day to be simple, meaningful, and focused entirely on us. The more we talked about a traditional wedding, the more it felt stressful and not true to who we are.

Instead, we imagined waking up excited, with no timeline, just the two of us, fully present. Thatโ€™s how we ended up eloping in the tulip fields of the Netherlands, surrounded by color, sunshine, and everything that felt right in our hearts.

How did your families react to your decision to elope?

Our families were completely supportive and genuinely excited for us. In true Cajun fashion, their only request was that we throw a big celebration afterward, and of course, we said yes.

Later this year, weโ€™ll be back home in Lafayette, celebrating with Cajun music, jambalaya, and all the good times that come with it. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

How did you find your custom suit?

Lindsay found William & Lauren Co. in Oklahoma City on social media, and we instantly loved their style and personal approach. We each booked design sessions, planning to surprise each other, but that didnโ€™t last long.

Our stylist, Char, was amazing. She guided us through every detail, from fabrics to stitching, and made the process feel completely our own. Since we were getting married in the tulip fields, we wanted color to play a big role. Lindsay chose a bold grape purple suit with a playful liner, and I went with sage green and a satin lapel.

The team at William & Lauren Co. made us feel confident, seen, and completely ourselves.

Walk us through your elopement day.

After a few days exploring Amsterdam, our wedding morning felt calm and special. We had breakfast at a cafรฉ, wandered through the Albert Cuyp Market, and soaked up the city before meeting our incredible hair and makeup artist, Vlada Vladykina. She made us feel radiant and ready.

Our driver took us to the private tulip field that our photographer, Arielle Frioza Photography, had arranged. The drive through the countryside was breathtaking, fields of color in every direction. When we arrived, Arielle guided us through photos with so much grace and creativity.

As the sun began to set, we read our vows surrounded by endless red tulips. It was everything we hoped for: intimate, emotional, and full of beauty.

How did you find your vendors?

All credit goes to Lindsay. She spent months researching and scrolling through social media to find vendors whose work really spoke to us. Once she found someone we loved, weโ€™d review their portfolio together and decide as a team.

Everyone we chose was so accommodating and aligned with our vision. Lindsay handled all the coordination, asked the right questions, and kept everything running smoothly. Her organization made the whole process feel easy and stress-free.

Did you share vows?

We did. I started writing mine the day we got engaged. Writing has always been how I process emotions, so it came naturally. Lindsay is more private with her feelings, so she took her time, making every word intentional.

We joked that mine would be seven pages and hers seven sentences, but when the moment came, her words were powerful and full of quiet beauty. It couldnโ€™t have been more perfect.

We took care of everything before our trip. A close friend and ally, whoโ€™s a licensed officiant, married us legally, and we filed the paperwork through our local courthouse.

That part felt more procedural. The real heart of our marriage happened in the tulip fields. Still, weโ€™re deeply grateful for the privilege of having that right and never take it for granted.

Do you have any advice for couples thinking about eloping?

Follow your heart and do what feels true to you, not what others expect. This day should reflect who you are as a couple.

Be present and donโ€™t stress over the little things. Some of the best memories come from what isnโ€™t planned.

Most of all, remember your why. Let your love and intention guide you, whether your day is bold and colorful or quietly simple.
