A Boho Wedding In Taos New Mexico

A very boho wedding at Hotel Luna Mystica in the desert of Taos New Mexico with Airstreams!

Tell Us About The Proposal.

Dani proposed to Diana at Kaihalulu Beach in Hana, HI. It is a remote red sand beach on the eastern coast of Maui that you have to walk a pretty skinny and steep path to get to.

It was very early in the morning, like 7am, we had the beach to ourselves, except for a nude man doing yoga and our pup Nala was running free.

On the way down to the beach that morning Dani asked to bring the GoPro and then asked to set it up once we were on the beach, (so essentially Diana filmed her own proposal 😅) and as we were going to pose for pictures, Dani took the ring out and started the pop the question.

Honestly, I don’t think either of us really know exactly what was said, but the video captures our smiles and giggles and it’s the best.

Easiest yes ever.

We spent the rest of the day at the beautiful Hana Maui Resort. We celebrated with champagne and hung out in the infinity pool and hot tub all day while fielding facetime calls from friends and family.

What Lead You To The Destination? Had You Been There Before?

We originally thought we would get married in Maui but quickly realized it would be way out of budget and likely hard for all of our guests to attend. We didn’t want to throw this one time event and risk some of our most important people not being able to be there.

We had spent a weekend together at Hotel Luna Mystica in our first year together and thought to ourselves at that time that it would be a fun place to get married. The staff at HLM is very accommodating and open to ideas for how to use the property which made it feel more personal. We were super excited that we could rent out all of the airstreams for the whole weekend and have our friends and family right there with us.

What Was The Inspiration Behind The Theme/Vibe Of Your Wedding And Why Did You Go With That?

Hotel Luna Mystica is an airstream hotel set in the high desert of Taos, NM, with a gorgeous mountain backdrop. It has such a boho / rustic vibe to it already, so it was easy to play off that theme. We did a terracotta color palette for the bridesmaids, brought in a boho lounge set, decorated with really earthy floral arrangements, a heptagon arch etc. It is very much the way that we decorate at home and we both like the aztec-type patterns on clothing and blankets, along with big turquoise jewelry, so we got to incorporate all of that.

It was very New Mexico, we saw lots of bolo ties throughout the weekend between our welcome party and the wedding.

Tell Us About Your Wedding Day.

We woke up on property in our airstreams at Hotel Luna Mystica. We had our Welcome Party on site the night before so we had to do a bit of clean up and rearranging of the tables / chairs to prep for the wedding.

We had breakfast and lunch brought on site and Dani and I each got to spend time with our bridal parties – they both planned really special and personal gifts for us.

Together with both of our moms, we got our hair and makeup done in one of the airstreams and then took turns doing photoshoots in our matching robes with our bridal parties.

We separated to put on our dresses and finishing touches and then did our first look with the whole bridal party and both families as we came out of the twin airstreams – Pollux & Castor.

We took a moment to ourselves to read our long vows just to each other and then got ready for the ceremony to start. That’s when the wind picked up. We probably had the most windy ceremony you could imagine, a legit dust storm- but it was still so beautiful and perfect. Our friend Lauren, who was our officiant, did an incredible job rolling with it and making tasteful jokes about the wind gods who decided to join us for the ceremony.

Dinner and speeches were seamless. We had a really nice mix of laughs and tears. But really we could not wait for our live band to start! We handpicked a funk band made up of members of a local Denver group called The Magic Beans & some of their friends and they played a 3 hour set that had everyone on the dance floor the entire night. So much fun.

What Are Your Favorite Moments?

Seeing our friends and families who hadn’t met each other yet become friends over the weekend and share laughs and dance with each other was really what we were most excited about. We both come from big groups of friends that share a lot of similar interests so we knew everyone would get along really well. We loved having all of our favorite people in one place and being able to have most of them staying on property with us all weekend made it really special and gave us a ton of bonus time to hang and chat with every person.

What Does Marriage Mean To You?

Marriage is knowing that I get to wake up and do life everyday with my favorite person in the entire world, that we have chosen to put each other first over anything, to trust each other, support each other, learn from each other and grow together.

It’s the first step to growing our family, to building our wealth, to creating the life we want to live. We both recognize how lucky we are that we exist in this time and place and are able to take this step together thanks to the efforts of many of those who came before us and fought for marriage equality.
