The Ladies’ Season: Bridgerton-Inspired Queer Wedding Styled Shoot in France

When Justine of Wedding Bonne Fée planned her own lesbian wedding, the lack of inclusivity and open judgment she faced inspired her to become a wedding planner for queer couples. For this styled shoot, she collaborated with Justine Gagne and Tiphaine of Thynea Photography to create The Ladies’ Season, a Bridgerton-inspired celebration that imagines a world where LGBTQIA+ love is embraced without question. At the heart of the shoot are Lou and Leo, real-life artists and influencers known as @les.sapphos, who stepped into their roles with ease (and even married just one month later!).

Tell us the inspiration behind the shoot.

I really like Bridgerton. It’s a guilty pleasure, but I’ve always found the aesthetics so beautifully precise. While watching, I started to wonder: what if in the world of Bridgerton, LGBTQIA+ love was accepted in the same way that multiracial couples are shown? What if all love and all couples were celebrated openly on screen? What if homophobia simply didn’t exist?

Those questions became the starting point for my artistic direction. As I binge-watched all three seasons, the idea of The Ladies’ Season was born.

For this project, I worked alongside two incredible photographers, Justine Gagne and Tiphaine of Thynea Photography, who shared the same vision. Together, we imagined the shoot as a seasonal ball from start to finish, from invitations all the way through to the dance party.

What are the key styling elements of the styled inspiration, and who brought them to life?

We started by choosing the colors: pink and orange. They’re the same colors featured in the final ball of the last Bridgerton season, the Butterfly Ball. Coincidence (or not), they’re also two of the three colors of the lesbian flag. From there, I selected pieces to bring those colors to life, especially through the fabrics. The way they drape is reminiscent of the grand curtains at the balls. Flowers mixed with fruits, styled by Fleur et Pépins and Fleurixel, became a way to symbolize both tradition and modernity.

The venue, Les gîtes du Haras du Ry, was the perfect backdrop. It has the look of the English countryside, with lakes, boats, horses, and sweeping green landscapes.

Several details were direct nods to the Bridgerton aesthetic: a pink quill, vintage tea cups, dance cards with crayons, butterflies, and glasses of lemonade. Rentals and furniture from La Malle Enchantée and Homemade For Love added the finishing touches.

Finally, the styling of the models tied everything together. Lou wore a gown by Cécile Labrunie, while Leo suited up in 17h10. Their looks were finished with hair by Les cheveux de rêve Caen and makeup by Tiko.

In five words, how would you describe this shoot?

Colorful, romantic, sapphic, modern, ball.

Tell us about the lovers. Why did you choose them?

I really wanted to work with a real couple because I was tired of seeing fake couples, especially fake lesbian couples, used in styled shoots. For me, true representation matters. Showing two heterosexual actresses together isn’t inclusivity, it’s pinkwashing.

Many real couples declined to participate because they didn’t want to be on social media, but then I reached out to French influencers Lou and Leo of @les.sapphos, and they said yes. I’ve followed them for years. They are artists, authors, and influencers who do incredible work for inclusivity and LGBTQIA+ rights. It was a true honor to collaborate with them on this project.

Their love story is beautiful. They met at art school in Paris when they were 20. That very first summer, they took off on an impulsive hitchhiking trip to Croatia. Since then, they’ve lived together all over France. Now they split their time between Paris and a cottage in Le Perche, sharing glimpses of their life with their 130K followers on Instagram. The timing was serendipitous too! Just one month after this shoot, they got married.
