Chloe & Liz – A Wet Weather Wedding at Mystery Bay
Words by Lucy from Translucent Photography
Mystery Bay is a beautiful coastal region just south of Narooma on the NSW South Coast. Liz and Chloe love the Sapphire Coast, and when searching for their perfect wedding venue, seeking a location that offered a combination of coast and country where guests could also stay on-site and make a weekend of the celebrations. All of their guests, including Liz and Chloe themselves, traveled to Mystery Bay for their wedding, so it was a great few days of catchups and a mini holiday to share with their loved ones.
Now you can plan everything but the weather, and unfortunately, due to the La Niña event that many parts of Australia are currently experiencing, there was rain – and lots of it. As a result, the pathway down to their ceremony location had become quite muddy underfoot. Still, thankfully the weather held out for the entire duration of the ceremony without a single drop of rain. During Liz and Chloe’s wedding portraits, held at Billy’s Beach in Mystery Bay, we encountered a few showers, but Liz, Chloe, and their wedding party (comprising of Liz’s children and Chloe’s siblings) embraced the weather and we had a tonne of fun in it! With gorgeous stormy skies setting as a backdrop on the beach. To kicking off the heels and running through the waves.

They were married by their dear friend Alison of Red Fox Ceremonies, before an arbor that Chloe and her Pop built together. Their wedding rings were beautifully custom-made by another dear friend of theirs (they’ve got some handy close connections!), Penny of Meakins Jewellers Wollongong. It was extraordinary to have Penny bring their rings into the ceremony and present them to Liz and Chloe.
Their reception was held on-site at Mystery Bay Cottages in a marquee. Guests were kept entertained by Gabe Music, who traveled down from Orange. The food was amazing. With share platters served by A Pinch Of Yum Catering from Merimbula, a local to the Sapphire Coast region. The close and handy connections continued with their wedding cake made by Austin Cakes, Liz’s sister-in-law. Then, with heartfelt speeches delivered, it was time to open the dance floor. Kicking it off with Liz and Chloe’s first dance held outside under the festoon lights.
Liz and Chloe’s wedding was a day full of intimacy and a keen focus on their loved ones, and it was a wonderful celebration to be a part of. Their day was absolutely magical and memorable for those in attendance. Liz and Chloe are so well suited for each other, and I had an absolute ball being a part of their day!
