Hello my darlings, I’m Carly. Welcome to the land of Wedding Photography Done Different. Here we leave behind any traditions that don’t feel like you, decorate those that do, and reimagine your wedding to be exactly what you want.
I’m big on anti-patriarchy weddings. Essentially a beautiful re-learning on what rituals are (legally) necessary for a marriage to be solemnised, which parts are ancient, magical (and pre-date patriarch), and which parts are outdated patriarchal attempts to turn these ceremonies into a form of lady-trade.
My photography is colourful, playful, uplifting and emotive. Documentary-like raw, real, feels, whilst still beckoning all the joy, fun and cheekiness out of you and your beloveds. If you’re looking for wedding photos that make you weep, giggle and squeal with candid joy, that catapult you back into the arms of the people you love, to relive the moments that make you melt and disarm you from the danger of ever taking for granted this one wild and precious life, then I am for you my darlinghearts.

What’s your process for understanding a couple’s vision for their day?
Connection. My ability to capture your connections beautifully is directly linked to my ability to connect with and understand you. It’s my job to get curious, learn about you, what matters to you; to make you feel seen and safe and inspired. To support your vision with the myriad insights I’ve gleaned immersing in these beautiful spaces. To help you with logistical elements like time-lining (if needed), so we leave ample room for your fave parts to breathe and carve out a day that allows you to be present, with your people, having the time of your life.
What’s the most unexpected source of inspiration you’ve had?
My own wedding! I married 40 of my friends on the magical island of Minjerribah (Quandamooka country) in a surrealist ball dress up theme. I did it as an Ode to Platonic Love; a gratitude spell to thank all the beautiful platonic partners in my life. I later realised it was also a permission spell for all my darling couples. To help them untether from the patriarchal handling of weddings and norms that no longer resonate. To remind them (you) that no one owns the celebration of love; who is eligible for it nor how it must be done. To cheerlead you to do things deeply, joyfully and authentically ‘you’.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“You are the one you are waiting for, my darling.”
