A Coastal Wedding Weekend at Watermouth Cove with a Pool Party

Kim (she/her) and Loren (she/her) celebrated their wedding at Watermouth Cove in North Devon, creating a relaxed two-night celebration that included a pool party, an emotional ceremony with their dog, Minnie, and 84 of their closest friends and family. Just six weeks after their seaside wedding, they embarked on their next adventure, relocating to Perth, Australia, where Loren would continue her career as a paramedic.

What drew you to Watermouth Cove for your celebration?

We fell in love with Watermouth Cove instantly through photos, and it only got better when we visited. The laid back coastal atmosphere perfectly matched our vision, and learning it was dog friendly sealed the deal.

Originally, we planned for May 2025, but when Loren was offered a paramedic position in Perth, we moved everything forward to May 2024. It meant we could have our perfect celebration with everyone we loved before starting our Australian adventure.

Tell us about the emotional moments that made your day special.

The morning was filled with them! We were getting ready just doors apart, Loren in the penthouse with her mum and bridesmaids, while I was in the glam room with my crew.

The most touching moment came when I opened a white gift box from Loren containing earrings she’d had made from my grandmother’s ring. She’d even asked my Dad’s permission first.

It was such a thoughtful gesture that had me in tears.

What made your ceremony uniquely yours?

Everything felt so personal, from our own written vows to having our dog Minnie there in her bespoke suit from KobeandRu Pet Supplies. I walked down the aisle first with my Dad, and Loren followed right after (she’d promised not to keep me waiting)! There was even a perfect 10 second rain shower as I walked down the aisle, which made everyone laugh.

After being pronounced wife and wife, our saxophonist started playing ‘One Day’ by Barkermat as we walked back down the aisle. It really kicked off the celebrations!

How did you incorporate family into your celebration?

Loren’s mum Maggie played such a special role. Not only did she create all our beautiful flowers, but she also gave the most personal reading during the ceremony. She’d secretly asked us both to write down what we loved about each other and our favorite memories, then wove them into this beautiful, funny piece.

I wore the earrings made from my nan’s ring, and my dad wore my grandad’s pocket watch. It felt like everyone we loved, past and present, was part of our day.

What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?

Trust your instincts about what feels right for you. We kept things relaxed with a two night celebration, starting with a pool party that got everyone mingling. Having a sweetheart table instead of a traditional top table meant we could have quiet moments together during the reception.

Our guests kept telling us they could see our love story in every detail, which was exactly what we wanted. With 84 guests, it was the perfect size to feel intimate but still have an amazing party!
