A Bold, Queer Bollywood Multicultural Wedding Celebration
Shannon (she/they) and Anjna (they/them) knew their wedding couldn’t be boxed into anything traditional. Instead, they went all out with a theme that felt as bold and vibrant as their love: Retro Bollywood Dream Sequence. Think lush tropical flowers, shimmering disco balls, and outfits that screamed Hunger Games meets Met Gala—it was truly a celebration of creativity, culture, and self-expression.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Trentadue Winery in Sonoma Wine Country, their day brought together South Indian Tamil, Hindu, Catholic, and Black American traditions in a way that was deeply personal and unapologetically them. From giant stuffed jungle animals at the reception to a dance floor that stayed packed all night, every detail reflected their vision of joy and community.
Ready to dive into all the bold colors, whimsical decor, and one-of-a-kind moments that made their day unforgettable?
What inspired the theme of your wedding day?
We wanted a wedding that felt like stepping into a fantastical, maximalist Bollywood dream. The theme, “Retro Bollywood Dream Sequence,” was inspired by Anjna’s love of old Bollywood cinema and Shannon’s love for the vibrant, irreverent style of the 1970s and 1980s. It allowed us to bring our creativity and cultural identities to life in a way that felt unique to us. The vibrant decor and florals were beautifully brought to life by Paradise Parkway.
How did you blend your cultures and identities into the ceremony?
Our ceremony was a beautiful mix of traditions that reflected our identities as a queer, interracial couple. We incorporated elements from South Indian Tamil, Hindu, Catholic, and Black American traditions to create a ceremony that felt sacred and meaningful. Instead of traditional roles like “bride” or “groom,” Anjna coined the term “Bloom” as a non-binary marrier – a reflection of their journey and identity.
What made Trentadue Winery the perfect venue for your wedding?
Trentadue Winery in Sonoma Wine Country had everything we needed to bring our vision to life. The lush outdoor spaces gave us the perfect backdrop for our tropical, over-the-top altar, while the indoor pavilion and grape arbor allowed us to create a dreamlike atmosphere for the reception. It was versatile, stunning, and exactly what we imagined.
What were the standout design elements of your wedding day?
We really leaned into bold, maximalist design in every space! The ceremony altar was adorned with vibrant tropical flowers and towering six-foot-tall organza blooms handmade in Italy. The reception was pure magic, with white cotton clouds and iridescent beaded raindrops hanging from the ceiling, styled by Paradise Parkway. For dinner, the grape arbor was transformed into an Alice in Wonderland-style wonderland with linens provided by Theoni Collection and stunning rentals from Bright Event Rentals.

Tell us about your wedding day outfits. How did you choose your looks?
Fashion has always been a huge part of our self-expression, so we wanted our wedding outfits to reflect that. Both of us wore transformable, multi-part ensembles inspired by 1960s Bollywood fashion, lovingly crafted and customized by Aayka Fashion. The jewel tones and pastel pinks, blues, and purples were inspired by the Bisexual and Trans pride flags, with iridescent silver accents for extra sparkle. Final alterations were done by Nancy B Tailoring & Alterations.
Did you add any personal or DIY touches to your wedding?
So many! We’re big on DIY, so we made everything from our welcome signs and ceremony programs to escort cards shaped like hibiscus flowers. One of our favorite projects was framing family photos to display during the cocktail hour—celebrating generations of love that led to us.
What was the atmosphere like during the cocktail hour and reception?
The cocktail hour was laid-back and playful, featuring lawn games and entertainment from magician David Martinez. Once the reception started, it was like stepping into a dream! Between the glowing disco balls and whimsical decor, it felt like pure magic. The dance floor stayed packed thanks to DJ Lovepreet from W Square Event Production.
What advice do you have for couples planning a wedding that feels unique to them?
Don’t be afraid to throw out the rulebook! We created a wedding that was unapologetically “us” by blending tradition, creativity, and intentional design. Work closely with vendors who understand your vision, like Anjali Chakra from Behl Events, and focus on the details that matter most to you.
