A Colorful Disco Wedding at Vin and Flower in Perth

Bec (she/her) and Lara (she/her) didnโ€™t want the whole big wedding thingโ€ฆ at least not at first. The plan was to elope, skip the traditions, and keep things simple. But after chatting with their celebrant, Georgia B, something clicked. They realized they could throw the rulebook out and still throw a damn good party. Fast forward to their wedding day in Perth, and what unfolded was just joy: sequins, cocktails, foil streamers, and a light-up dance floor at Vin and Flower.

What inspired the vibe for your wedding?

We were originally thinking about a super small registry office wedding until Georgia B, our celebrant, showed us how much freedom we had. She shared photos of other couples sheโ€™d worked with, including Jen and Jo (who weโ€™re now friends with). Their explosion-of-color celebration totally shifted our mindset. Thatโ€™s when we realized we could have something fun, casual and completely personal.

Why did you choose Vin and Flower as your venue?

We wanted a space that felt like a party. We visited three venues in the same week and Vin and Flower was the only one that got a loud YES from both of us. The staff were amazing, the space looked incredible and they were so accommodating with all our vendors. It just felt right.

Tell us about your outfits. What did you wear?

Lara: I knew she wanted a suit custom made and worked with Callum from Edward McCann, who was professional, inclusive and really understood her vision.

Bec, on the other hand, was less sure. Bridal stores werenโ€™t her vibe, so she scrolled the internet until she found a sequinned jumpsuit with a half cape from Club L London. As soon as she tried it on, she knew sheโ€™d dance all night in it. She added a giant fluffy green jacket for flair, even if it was too warm for a Perth winter. Her silver shoes were from Bared Footwear, and Laraโ€™s tailor even helped with the final tweaks.

We chose Rohan Jewellers for both their engagement and wedding rings, and the team there made the process feel personal and relaxed.

What was your wedding day like?

We spent the morning getting ready at an Airbnb in an old Salvation Army building in Perth with our mums, Laraโ€™s sister and our niece. Hair was styled by Brooke Saliba from The Pretty Parlour, which helped set such a calm, fun tone to start the day. After a few photos with family, we ducked out for portraits with our photographer, Kitty Loves Love, who had scouted out some perfect city locations.

Then we hopped in an Uber and made our grand entrance at Vin and Flower together to โ€œFools Goldโ€ by Jack River. The ceremony was full of laughter and cheers. Georgia B absolutely nailed it. After a quick speech, we skipped the formalities and let the party take over. Great food, cocktails, handmade cannoli, and Bec whipping her cape around like a lasso on the dance floor.

The space itself was transformed with foil streamer installations by Epic Installs and a glowing rainbow dance floor from The Dance Floor Co.. DJ Kylie Pearsall kept the party going strong all night.

At the end of the night, a downpour sent us running with a few guests to the local gay bar. The person at the door asked, โ€œIs this a gay wedding?!โ€ and then let us all in for free.

How did you choose your photographer and videographer?

Georgia B recommended Kitty Loves Love at our very first meeting. We looked at others, but once we saw Kittyโ€™s work we were sold. Her use of color, her way of capturing queer couples, her whole vibe. She was perfect.

We werenโ€™t originally planning on having a videographer, but changed our minds late in the game. Kitty recommended Story Story, and we loved her clips right away. Bonus: they had worked together before, which made the day feel really seamless.

Any wedding planning advice for others?

Keep it light. Donโ€™t get caught up in perfection. We used a spreadsheet to track costs and kept checking in about what actually mattered to us. Invest in the few things you care about and let go of the rest. And trust your vendors. We chose people whose style we loved and let them do their thing. They all went above and beyond.

What are your favorite memories from the day?

Too many to count. Walking into the venue together and seeing everyone cheering for us. Spending the morning with family. Watching people tear up the dance floor. That last-minute rainstorm and ending the night at a queer bar. The whole thing felt like the most โ€œusโ€ version of a wedding possible.
