Custom Celebrations By Dee
Queer, relaxed and inclusive Melbourne Marriage Celebrant.
Hello, my name is Dee, I’m a Marriage Celebrant. A Lesbian. A Storyteller. A Maker of Dresses. A Lover of Prosecco.
I live in Melbourne’s Preston with my partner and our two fluffy dogs.
As a celebrant, my approach, by asking you loads of questions, over coffees or drinks, is to create a ceremony that most reflects the two of you and your love story.
I’ll be there to enable and encourage you to ditch the traditions that don’t resonate with you, and to embrace or enhance the traditions that do resonate with you both. All with loads of enthusiasm!
Weddings come in all different sizes, budgets and details, and I am a big fan of embracing the type of celebration that most excites you.
It might be just the two of, two witnesses and myself.
Maybe, it’s a group of your favourite people, loads of good food and wine celebrating over a weekend away.
Or maybe you are having a big celebration, with all the Bells and Whistles.
I love being part of every type of marriage celebration, so please, tell me about your plans and together we can create a ceremony that suits it perfectly.

Inclusivity is very important for me. I never want anyone at a wedding that I am involved in to feel excluded, unwelcome, uncomfortable or bothered. I strongly believe that is no excuse for non-inclusive language on your wedding day.
I will always advocate for myself, my couples and community in ensuring that everyone recognises and remembers that ‘not every wedding includes a Bride.’ That not every female-identifying person wants to be called a Bride.
What is most important is including everyone by using inclusive languages, by affirming your pronouns and titles and mostly, by calling you by your name!
Your gender identity, sexual identity, nationality and whether you live with a disability is important to me, because and when they are important to you.

What’s one song that always gets you on the dance floor?
Am I showing my age and lack of coolness by admitting that it’s The Nutbush….?
How can lovers make their wedding day special?
Be true to themselves and embrace all the things that make them the fabulous couple that they are. If you have a shared hobby or passion, work with your vendors to find a way to include it in your wedding.
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a wedding pro?
Being a witness to a couple sharing their personal vows, or that moment when I declare them married and they stride back down the aisle into married life!
From our first catch up over coffee or drinks, to planning a couple’s ceremony, to the last minute messages and check ins. I’ve gotten to know, and love, my couple and know the efforts and planning that have gone into creating these moments.
When you finally are MARRIED and your favourite people are celebrating!
Slowing these moments down to give my couples the time and space to truly soak them in is such a rewarding part of my role.
The vulnerability and openness that my couples share their lives and love story with me. Weddings are emotional events, for many people, not just the couple. Being ‘let in’ to a couple’s inner circle and being trusted by them is a huge honour.
