A Love Story 9 Years in the Making
Jess and Alahana’s wedding was a beautiful celebration of love and music. They met at university while completing their Masters of Teaching degree and have been together for almost nine years. They both knew they wanted to get married, but Jess struggled to find the perfect ring until they had one custom made out of a flute key, which was a nod to their love of music.
After their engagement, they had to wait due to COVID-19 restrictions, but they finally got married on January 7th, 2023, at Sandringham Yacht Club. The venue had sweeping bay views and a perfect ceremony balcony, which was a perfect fit as they wanted to get married somewhere with ocean views to represent their home in the seaside suburb of Aspendale.
The couple did several DIY projects to personalize their wedding. They made all the stationary themselves, and on each table setting, they placed an anniversary card with a number that corresponded to the table. The guests could then write a message to be opened on their anniversary. This unique idea meant that the couple can relive their wedding day each year for many years to come. They also had their own gin made with dried citrus that they dried and bagged themselves. It was a hit with their guests, and many sent messages and photos of them drinking their gin long after the wedding.

Jess and Alahana found the perfect outfits for their wedding. Jess had a tailor, Michael from Germanicos in Melbourne, who custom fitted her suit. He understood her dream suit, and Jess felt amazing on the day. For her dress, Alahana went through D’Italia in Malvern, where Vicky, the dressmaker, helped her design her dream dress. She felt beautiful in her off-shoulder classic dress.
The couple’s favorite moment was when they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day. The sight of their soon-to-be-spouse standing at the end of the aisle, with a big smile and eyes locked on each other, still makes their hearts skip a beat. They also loved the moment they got home that night, back to their newly purchased home in Aspendale, and hung out with their puppy Poco, reflecting on the day in their little home together.
Overall, Jess and Alahana’s wedding was a magical, perfect, wonderful, loving, amazing, and the best day of their lives. They loved every moment, from getting ready to dancing the night away with their favorite people. The feeling of happiness, joy, and excitement will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Their wedding was a beautiful celebration of love, music, and their unique personalities, and they will remember it fondly for many years to come.
