A Foggy Saint John Wedding, New Brunswick

Adriana (she/her) and Andie (she/her) met in the most modern way, on Tinder, and instantly hit it off, spending almost every night together from that point on.  They even had a haiku proposal. When it came time for their Saint John wedding, they were determined to keep it intimate and personal, with a moody, industrial vibe that reflected their love for the city.

How did you and Andie first meet, and what brought you closer?

Andie and I met in February 2019 on Tinder! I had only been on Tinder for about a week, and Andie was my first date. Things moved pretty quickly after that – we were immediately obsessed with each other, and within a few weeks, we were spending almost every night together.

We both love being social and keeping busy, and that shared energy really brought us closer.

One of our biggest bonding experiences came during the start of the pandemic when we decided to renovate our kitchen. It was a huge project, but it showed us that we can take on anything together and still have fun.

Can you tell us about your proposal, what made it unique?

I proposed to Andie on her birthday in August 2021, right in our kitchen, surrounded by a dozen of our closest friends. It felt intimate and personal.

The best part?

I proposed with a haiku!

We had this thing where we’d write each other daily haikus on our chalkboard, so it felt like the perfect way to pop the question.

And luckily, “Will you marry me?” fits perfectly into five syllables. It was such a sweet moment, and so us.

What was your vision for your wedding day in Saint John, NB?

Our dream wedding was all about keeping things intimate and true to us. We got married on September 9, 2023, and had an outdoor ceremony with our closest friends and family. Afterward, we took pictures around the city in our favorite places, before heading to our reception at an old dinner theater. We were working with a small budget, but thanks to the help of our amazing friends and family, we pulled off a beautiful day without breaking the bank.

What was your favorite part of the day?

Honestly, we were hoping for fog on our wedding day to get that moody, gritty vibe in our pictures, and Saint John didn’t disappoint! The fog made everything look so atmospheric and really played into the industrial elements of the city that we love. Our photographer, Kelly Baker, absolutely nailed the aesthetic we were going for and gave us photos that were even better than we could’ve imagined. And because she’s a friend of ours, the whole shoot felt relaxed and fun.

You had a small budget, how did you make it all come together?

We definitely worked with a smaller budget, but we were so lucky to have friends and family who pitched in to help. We kept the guest list intimate, had an outdoor ceremony, and chose a reception venue that felt personal – a dinner theater that we both love.

We didn’t focus on spending big; instead, we made sure to highlight the things that mattered to us, like the music and photography. We had Naomi Studio as our DJ, and live performances from Catherine Kennedy and Pillow Fite, which made the day feel even more special.

What’s the story behind your new last name, Bloom?

When we got married, we chose the last name Bloom. It felt like the perfect fresh start for us as a married couple, symbolizing growth, change, and always moving forward.

Our relationship has been full of changes and challenges, but every step has only brought us closer.

Taking on a name that reflected that sense of growth felt really right for us.
