Janet & Monica – A Flower Boy and a Blue Wedding Dress

Two lesbian brides getting married in Fort Worth Texas USA

Over the last eight years Janet and Monica have just fallen more in love. They celebrated the next step, marriage, in a DIY affair.

Tell us about the proposal.

While we had talked about marriage, and I knew it was coming, the proposal was a complete surprise. We were on our usual walk when out of nowhere, our song started playing (from a Bluetooth speaker in my little sister’s pocket), and Janet asked me to marry her.

How was planning a DIY Wedding?

Let’s just say that planning the wedding was the easy part. With a DIY wedding, you start first with the people and vendors you know or local businesses. Somehow that all went perfectly, and we found everything we needed. The setup, on the other hand was a nightmare, specifically having enough hands to set up. We were running around like chickens with our heads cut off, but it all came out well.

Talk to us about your experience finding the perfect outfits.

Chotronette had been my dream (Monica) since I first discovered them on Instagram. I knew I wanted a wedding dress made by Chotronette, and the Starry Night dress made to my customizations fulfilled my every wish.

Kenjo Suits was suggested to Janet by a friend. After having searched every site, we took that recommendation. It was so fun for Janet to completely customize her suit, from the overall colors down to the outer space lining on the inside of the jacket.

How do you feel about the wedding day?

The day started out stressful but quickly became a dream. It was so much fun and exactly what we wanted: love, family, and lots of dancing.

Literally every part, it was great to see all of our ideas and visions for our wedding come to life.

What does marriage mean to you?

Marriage is the beginning of a love story that you want to last forever, a love that brings two people to a place that they couldn’t see themselves at with anyone else.

Advice for other couples planning a wedding?

Just think about the things that really matter to YOU and what you envision your day to be like. Don’t just play it safe. Make it your own and use the readily available resources to you. Your own personal style of decor can help bring a more individual touch.

The friends and family that helped the whole DIY aspect made it so much more personal and intimate. Most of all, enjoy the day. It goes by faster than you think.
