I could not wipe the silly, cheeky grin off of my face all day long! We were married in a garden ceremony off the train tracks on the edge of the neighborhood in New Orleans where we met. We met at a karaoke bar seven years earlier. I was performing Lady Gaga’s ‘You and I.’ Mary just couldn’t get enough of me and approached me before I could even get off the stage. And the rest is herstory.
We worked really hard to make our wedding intentional and FUN at every point in the planning process. We had a lot of fun working with almost entirely local vendors and talent. And we felt good about supporting their businesses after some tough pandemic times. But, to us, the most important part of the day was about being surrounded by everyone we loved so that we could celebrate together how much our community means to us and our relationship.

Our wedding day was a perfect day in New Orleans (delayed exactly one year because of COVID). We spent the day before the wedding hanging out at home together with our dogs and our close friends and family. Then we took some quiet time to get ready together and soak it all in. I’ll never forget the hoopin’ and hollerin’ and cheers from the crowd as Mary, and I walked down “the aisle” together. Our best friend pushed a shopping cart labeled “Krewe du Mary and Sally” as an ode to our favorite Mardi Gras walking parades with music blasting from it to lead our guests one block from the ceremony to the reception. But not before Mary and I shared a “Just Married” beer crack right after our ceremony that got a little wet and foamy!
