Muddy Dresses and Coastal Cabins: A Port Angeles Beach Elopement
Isabel and Serenaโs Port Angeles elopement unfolded slowly and intentionally. After eight years together, including long-distance college days, architecture school deadlines, and becoming guardians to Serenaโs younger sister, the two of them knew a big traditional wedding wasnโt in the cards. Instead, they planned a weeklong family trip to Washington that started with a quiet beach ceremony at Salt Creek Recreation Area and ended with cake, lake views, and muddy dresses. With The Cardinals behind the camera and thoughtful details like stitched-in heirlooms and wildflower florals by A&E Florals, this elopement felt both grounded and personal.
Why did you choose to elope?
We actually decided to elope before we were officially engaged. Weโd always dreamed of traveling together and had talked about marriage for years. But when the pandemic hit, and then when Rosie came into our lives, travel took a backseat.
Eloping gave us the perfect excuse to finally go somewhere beautiful and meaningful, just the two of us, with no big guest list drama. We kept the planning quiet and invited only our parents, Serenaโs brother, and Rosie to join for a weeklong vacation that began with the ceremony.
What made you choose Port Angeles and Olympic National Park?
Once we decided on the Pacific Northwest, we started researching elopement photographers who really understood the vibe we were going for. Thatโs how we found Natasha and Brian of The Cardinals. They were exactly what we were envisioning and more. They helped with planning, ceremony locations, timelines, and even referred us to other local vendors.
We chose Salt Creek Recreation Area for our ceremony and Lake Crescent for portraits. We knew we wanted somewhere lush, quiet, and meaningful, and the views from those spots sealed the deal.

Walk us through the day. What were some highlights?
We woke up in our Airbnb with our family. Our moms made breakfast and coffee while we got our hair and makeup done by Blossom and Beauty. Rosie ran outside to look for deer with my dad. After getting ready and taking portraits with the family, Serena and I slipped away to meet our officiant at Salt Creek.
The ceremony was just us, our photographer and videographer, and the ocean. It felt like time stopped while we exchanged vows. After that, we hiked around Lake Crescent for more photos and eventually met back up with everyone for dinner, mud-stained dresses and all.
We ended the night at a separate Airbnb just for us and even spent the next day in Victoria, Canada.
What was it like choosing your dresses?
Isabel: I had a strong vision and moved fast. I found the dress online, made an appointment, and it ended up being the first one I tried on. Serena took a little more time, but we went to the same boutique, The Dresser Bridal. They were so supportive and even helped me surprise Serena by stitching a piece of her dadโs hat into her gown as her โsomething blue.โ
We wanted dresses that felt dreamy but realistic for a nature elopement. The team helped us find the perfect fabric, train lengths, and silhouettes for hiking around the coast.
How did you personalize your ceremony and vows?
We shared private vows during our ceremony, just the two of us. Our officiant gave us prompts to help us write them, but we each came up with something totally unique. It was quiet, emotional, and incredibly grounding to stand on the beach and speak those words out loud.
We wrote them in keepsake vow books and plan to reread them on our anniversaries.
What vendors helped bring your day to life?
Finding vendors felt overwhelming at first, so we started with The Cardinals since many elopement photographers also help with planning. Once they were on board, things started falling into place.
Our cake was made by Crumleyโs Confections, and A&E Florals created the most stunning wildflower-inspired bouquets. We kept the getting-ready vibe super chill thanks to Blossom and Beauty, who handled both hair and makeup. And we canโt forget our thoughtful officiant from Happily Wed Ceremonies, who helped guide us through writing vows and navigating the legal process.
Everyone was so thoughtful and easy to work with.
What advice would you give to other couples considering eloping?
Trust your gut. Even in the elopement world, there are trends and expectations, but none of that matters if it doesnโt speak to you. You donโt have to exclude family, hike a mountain, or follow a certain aesthetic just because thatโs whatโs popular.
Your wedding is one of the few times you get to make the rules. So make it yours.
