A Double Proposal at a Bookshop and Heceta Head Lighthouse
Sometimes, the universe has a way of making things even more special than planned. When Jess reached out to book a photo session for her surprise proposal to Mik, no one could have predicted what would happen next. Months later, Mik emailed to book her own surprise proposal – on the exact same day. Neither had any idea what the other was planning, and what unfolded was one of the most heartfelt and unforgettable double proposals.
The Secret Plan
About a year ago, Jess reached out to me to book a session for one of the most exciting moments of her life – proposing to her partner, Mik. She envisioned a romantic getaway at the breathtaking Heceta Head Lighthouse in Florence, Oregon, where the trip would end with her dropping to one knee and asking Mik to marry her.
From the very first date, Jess knew Mik was the one. She even played me an audio recording she’d made after that date, capturing her raw emotions as she spoke about Mik. You could hear the love and certainty in her voice, even back then.
Her plan was for me to secretly capture the proposal at the lighthouse, followed by an engagement session on the nearby beach. Jess had even shown Mik my Instagram, and Mik had mentioned wanting to hire me for “their wedding one day.” Jess was giddy with excitement at the idea of surprising Mik with me photographing the proposal. We finalized our plans and just had to wait for the big day.
A Surprise Twist
Six months later, I received an email that made my heart stop – this time from Mik. She wanted to book me to capture her proposal to Jess… on the exact same day that Jess had already booked me!
Mik told me about their planned trip to Florence and how she thought it would be the perfect opportunity to pop the question. She had no idea that Jess had already arranged her own surprise proposal. We quickly got to work planning her proposal at a small bookstore in town, completely unaware of the beautiful twist unfolding.
The Day of the Proposals
The day of the proposal was nothing short of perfect. That morning, I helped Mik set up a beautifully thought-out display in the bookstore. She had designed a custom book jacket featuring characters that looked just like them – such a sweet and personal touch.
When they arrived, the moment Mik proposed was absolutely magical. Jess’s eyes filled with tears as she looked at the custom book and the ring, while Mik’s smile was huge when Jess said yes. It was heartwarming and so perfect.
Then, we all moved on to the lighthouse to seamlessly transition into Jess’s original plan. At the top of the cliff, with the wind and rain of the stunning Oregon Coast swirling around them, Jess poured her heart out to Mik and asked her to marry her. When Mik realized what was happening, her reaction was priceless!
Both freshly engaged, these two sweethearts took a celebratory stroll on the beach before wrapping up the day with a recorded “Memory Call,” where they reflected on their favorite moments.
It was truly the sweetest double proposal, and I can’t believe I got to be a part of it!
