An Austin Wedding with Vibrant Florals, Beer Burros and Fireworks

Julia (she/her) and Hannah (she/her) met on Tinder in New York City back in 2014, and neither of them expected it would lead to a whirlwind romance. Fast forward through three years of long-distance, life-changing challenges, and countless adventures, and they finally celebrated their love with a wedding at Addison Grove in Austin, Texas. Their day was filled with memorable touches, from adorable beer burros entertaining guests to a surprise fireworks show that closed out the celebration in true Texas style. If you are looking for some unique ways to personalize your wedding, this one is packed with inspiration.

Tell us about the proposal. Who proposed and how did it happen?

Julia proposed right before our eighth anniversary, and it was perfect in its own way. She knew she wanted to make it memorable, so she sent Hannah on a wild “help a friend out by walking their dog” errand during peak Los Angeles traffic – an intentional distraction. While Hannah was out navigating traffic, Julia transformed our home, filling it with candles and photos of our friends and family.

The photos were extra special because they all held signs that said, “Just do it.” When Hannah finally got home, she was greeted by a magical setup and a proposal surrounded by the spirit of our community.

It was a beautiful surprise, and to this day, Hannah cannot believe how everyone managed to keep it a secret.

What inspired your choice of venue at Addison Grove in Austin, Texas?

Addison Grove felt like the perfect place to celebrate our love and the life we have built together. We both wanted a setting that was natural, welcoming, and quintessentially Texas.

After spending years in New York and Los Angeles, we were drawn to the rustic beauty and the laid-back charm of the space. It was the ideal backdrop to gather our loved ones from across the country and have a celebration that was equal parts elegant and fun.

How did you personalize your wedding day to reflect your relationship and your journey together?

Our goal was to have a wedding that was truly a celebration of the life and community we have built over the past ten years. From adorable beer burros (shoutout to Big City Farm) that greeted our guests to personalized signage by Peach Paper, every detail had a personal touch. Our florist, Joan Florals, created lush, vibrant arrangements that felt organic and romantic, perfectly matching our vision.

What were you both wearing, and how did you choose your outfits?

Hannah wore a stunning dress from Love and Lace Bridal Salon, designed by Tara LaTour. It was a dreamy blend of modern and classic styles with unique floral details that felt so “her.”

Julia opted for a custom-tailored suit from GotStyle. It was sharp and elegant, but most importantly, comfortable enough for dancing the night away. Alysia Cole Styling helped us tie it all together, and we felt amazing.

How did you choose your vendors, and did any of them make a special impact on your day?

We feel so lucky to have worked with an incredible team. Our photographer, Riley Glenn, captured every moment with such authenticity and grace.

Austin Catering provided a delicious spread that had our guests raving, and the cake by Kayla Knight Cakes was both beautiful and scrumptious.

Our planner, Truly Together Event Co, made the day run so smoothly, and we could not have done it without them.

Looking back, what moments stand out to you the most from the day?

One of our favorite moments was our first dance. We had a live performance by Plush Party Band, and it felt like time stood still as we danced together surrounded by our loved ones. Another unforgettable moment was the surprise fireworks display coordinated by Big Dog Pyro that lit up the Texas sky and left everyone in awe. It was pure magic.

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?

Stay true to yourselves and focus on what matters most to you both. It is easy to get caught up in the planning whirlwind, but remember that the day is about your love and the life you are creating together. Trust your vendors and lean into their expertise—they want your day to be as special as you do. And most importantly, have fun and savor every moment. It really does go by in a flash.
