An Adventurous Elopement in the Lofoten Islands, Norway

Lindsie and Danielle’s intimate elopement in Norway’s stunning Lofoten Islands is a story of serendipity, adventure, and simplicity. After falling in love quickly, they celebrated their connection with a surprise double proposal during a hiking trip and later brought that same adventurous spirit to their wedding day. With only a handful of their closest loved ones, they trusted their elopement photographer to find the perfect location for their wedding ceremony, and celebrated at a nearby restaurant.

Tell us about falling in love so quickly. You shared a surprise double proposal.

We met on Hinge, and as taboo as it sounds, we fell in love almost immediately. After a year together, we were engaged.

Without knowing it, we had both planned to propose on the same hiking trip we’d organized without our kids—a perfect moment of serendipity.

Lindsie proposed first. She handed her camera to a group nearby, hoping to get ‘the shot’. She dropped down onto one knee, and Danielle just looked down at her and shook her head. With a smile, she reached into her own pocket and pulled out a ring!

Even as a child, Lindsie always dreamed of going somewhere international for her wedding. She wanted something small, intimate, and personal, surrounded by their closest friends and family. Thankfully, Danielle was okay with the idea.

Lindsie envisioned the outdoors as the backdrop, and Danielle agreed. So, we began searching for the perfect location.

How did your family and friends react to your decision to elope?

It was an adjustment for our families to understand the simplicity we were striving for. We had numerous conversations with family members, diffusing the need for wedding colors, cakes, and bridesmaids. We had to keep reminding them that we didn’t want any of that—we just wanted to wear wedding dresses and have amazing photos in an incredible location.

We didn’t need all the other ‘stuff’ that typically comes with a wedding.

Neither of us had huge expectations for the day, but we couldn’t have imagined anything better, even in our wildest dreams. We honestly have our incredible photographer, Jaakko, to thank for so much of it. We picked the Lofoten Islands and trusted him to find the specific wedding location. He truly understood our desire for something intimate, focused on just the two of us.

The night before the wedding, Jaakko came over with location options and talked us through them all. We settled on an amazing spot with a black mountain backdrop, which required a bit of a hike to reach.

Tell us more about the wedding day.

The morning of the wedding, our close friends and Lindsie’s sister came to help us get ready. Those candid photos Jaakko took that morning are truly sacred—they capture the deep bonds and sincere love that have shaped those relationships.

Every moment of that day is special. From the first look to walking from spot to spot for photos, and the in-between conversations with Jaakko.

Pulling up to the trailhead and seeing all the people who showed up for us was amazing. The hike was everything Lindsie could have asked for on her wedding day.

The location was breathtaking—it was perfect. There’s no other way to describe it. We were ‘behind’ schedule the entire day, but it didn’t matter. We didn’t have anywhere else to be, or any hard timelines to keep.

You chose to have a restaurant dinner after the elopement. Tell us about it.

We shared a customized three-course menu, and our venue, Aimee’s Restaurant, stayed open after hours to host us.

This family-owned restaurant locally sources everything and raises its own Highland cattle and sheep. It was so beautiful, so intimate, and the food was delectable.

Everyone gave a toast, and we ended the night feeling like we might truly be the luckiest humans on earth.

You also decided to have a photoshoot the day after your wedding. Why?

The next day, we spent time with our photographer getting more photos! We took the kids to the fishing village of Nusfjord and went on a hike.

Having a professional photographer capturing us exploring the village was awesome, and the photos are amazing.

And, what does the future hold for you all?

Every day with your best friend by your side is a gift—a gift neither of us ever want to take for granted. Neither of us had an easy road to get to where we are today, but we recognize how our trials and hardships shaped the humans we each fell in love with.

We are so excited for the future. We plan to take our family all over the world and experience new things together.

Currently, we’re in the thick of it raising children, but we hope to always keep experiencing a new ‘best day’.
