Since August 2019, Alabama doesn’t issue marriage licenses. Instead, you both sign a standardized Marriage Certificate Form in front of an Alabama notary, then file it with the probate office within 30 days. A ceremony is optional, and your marriage is effective once the certificate is recorded.
