I know we harp on about how important it is to be you on your wedding day, but, for some women who want to rock a suit, options can be a little sparse and for others, it can be a downright awkward experience – and that’s not okay with us.
There is good news and bad news for women finding a suit for their wedding day.
The bad news, renting a suit might not be an option for you. Depending on your body shape and style you might be able to find something that fits wells, but the chances are you won’t. The good news; there are loads of quality vendors who create suits specifically for women (and then again specifically for LGBTQ+ women.
We’ve narrowed it down for you, here are some of our faves from around the world.
Androgynous formal attire custom made by women for women ~ “Be free to be” and we are 100% on board with that. Not only where the team at Shane Ave crowd favourites when we asked our audience for their favourite suit specialists in Australia but we’ve seen quite a few styled shoots that feature their suits and they are nothing short of amazing.
Not only is their collection ethically conscious (in fact, Lenka Couture is Australia’s first Ethical Clothing Australia accredited bridal label) their work is oh.so.beautiful. They have a huge focus on individuality and making you feel comfortable on your wedding day. There’s also a chance that they’ll use onion skins to dye your materials – and we think that is amazing!
Ladies who like Tuxedo’s, this collection is handcrafted in Melbourne and is completely customisable to your needs – they also have a large collection of colours if they typical blue or black just isn’t you. They specialise in creating the perfect outfit for women, for whatever occasion.
You probably already follow their Instagram account full of swoon-worthy same-sex wedding inspiration (and if you don’t, you should). Kipper Clothiers was created following the repeal of Proposition 8 to cater to the needs of the LGBTQ+ community. They aimed to create a space that was safe and comfortable to make suits and shirts for individuals of all shapes, sizes, and orientations. They’ve also just opened up a space for those outside of California – so you might want to check them out!
Bindle & Keep
We absolutely love the fact that Bindle and Keep pride themselves on a creating a unique combination of fabric, lining and cut for every individual. While this kind of bespoke service does come at a bit of a cost (prices start at around $800, but go right up to $3K) we promise it’ll be your pride & joy for years to come.
Another queer owned company doing things for all the right reasons. While there is still the option to have a bespoke suit made, if something off the rack suits you better (see what we did there?!) they have a really great selection online that comes in a little cheaper than the full service.
The Dapper Dames
A custom suiting experience at an ‘off the rack’ price point. The Dapper Dames have a great selection online that is fully customisable in an easy to use format. They’re also really inclusive of bodies of all shapes and sizes and prompt you to create your own profile unique to you – which we think is a great idea.
We Are Wild Fang
A home for badass women – We Are Wild Fang is the perfect choice if you’re happy to get something off the rack, or you’re looking for something a little left of centre. With Suiting starting at just $100 and shipping across the world, you could update your whole wardrobe!

With over 3,000 (yep, 3,000!) different cloths to choose from you’ll be spoilt for choice! Honestly, if you can dream it up, they can create it. Although they have stores in London where you can start finding your perfect outfit, they also have pop up shops around the UK if that’s a little more convenient.
For some, it isn’t imperative to have an in-store experience. While most of the vendors above will be happy to accommodate orders that come from other parts of the country, or internationally, these options are solely online options.
Suit Me Up
Based in Melbourne Suit Me Up make it really easy to pick your options online, input your own measurements (that you can do in the comfort of your own home) and in three weeks or so you’ll get your new suit delivered right to your door. Seems nearly too easy, right? Well they offer a fit guarantee so that you can feel comfortable in not having the measurements done by a professional.
Sumissura also has a ‘right fit’ guarantee – and they will even cover alterations (up to 25% of the total price of the garment) if it isn’t perfect. If you’re still a little skeptical about shopping for a suit online, which we understand because we were too, having these options should give you a little piece of mind.
