Taryn & Alexis’ Whirlwind Romance And Magical Wedding Adventure

We have been together almost five years, married for four months! We met in college by being introduced by one of our close mutual friends.

Aside From Your Wedding, What Is Your Favorite Memory Together?

Taryn- My favorite memories include the days we got our two cats. Each day, Lex took charge and found our two little guys. The best part is when we first met, she was not a cat person. However, now she can’t get enough of them. They make our little family complete. Seeing her fall in love with them is one of my favorite things.

Alexis- I can’t pick one specific memory, but I would say that all of our trips and traveling have been some of my favorite memories. Taryn makes me feel so safe, and I love being anywhere with her. I didn’t grow up a big traveler, so I love experiencing the world with her and creating our own memories together.

Tell Us About The Proposal.

Taryn- I surprised Alexis by taking her to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, for a mini vacation. We ended up staying in a treehouse for the weekend. The weather and setting were perfect. I told Lex to get ready for dinner, and when she was done, I had her meet me on the patio of our treehouse. I set up a pre-dinner photo, but really, I was recording our proposal. She was completely caught off guard, and before I could even say anything, she just kept saying, “BABE WHAT”. Finally, I said, “Honey, you have to let me ask,” and I said, “Will you marry me?” Surprisingly, she said yes! It was the perfect moment. We both had tears in our eyes and couldn’t stop smiling.

Alexis- I knew Taryn would propose first, so once she did, I knew I wanted to plan something special for her, too. We had been up in the Kansas City area for almost a year, and I found a small park with a secluded lake. I packed a cooler and blanket for a picnic, picked her up, and told her it was a surprise. We sat by the water, played a game, talked for a bit, and then I pulled out her ring as I unpacked the cooler. I think she had an idea of what was happening, but she will never admit it. It was a perfect moment with my girl.

Talk Us Through Your Wedding Day.

It was everything we could have wanted and more. We rented a large Airbnb for us, our family, and close friends. Lex and I wanted to have some time first thing in the morning to spend 1:1 time together. We decided to have our morning drinks coffee for me and an Alani for Lex. We got in the hot tub together and talked about what we wanted out of our day and some of our favorite moments since we’ve been together. We also exchanged gifts with each other. It was perfect. Then we ate breakfast with everyone and got the Airbnb decorated and chairs set up for the ceremony. Around 1, we started to get ready with our best friends and mom. We blasted our get-ready playlist, including our favorite artists (Taylor Swift and Beyonce). Before Lex and I were fully ready, we decided to separate until our first look. We were so happy we did this because that moment was beautiful. Around 5 pm, our best friend, who introduced us, officiated our ceremony. There were many tears and laughs. Afterward, we left to get some more photos with our AMAZING photographer while our wedding crew got dinner ready and maybe did some partying of their own! Once we got back, we were welcomed with our walk-in song, and all of our guests cheered and sang along. Then we danced the night away.

Advice For Other Couples Planning A Smaller Wedding?

Make sure you have people in your corner to advocate for what you want and need when things get stressful. The tricky thing about small weddings is there can be a lot of voices giving opinions or trying to take the load off of the couple, which is great BUT can feel overwhelming. Be sure to have one or two people who know exactly what you want/need, and let them answer questions or help guide the day!
