A Casual Engagement Photoshoot in South Africa
Anna-Mart and Carmen instantly fell in love. Anna-Mart is a school teacher and Carmen a caretaker for people with dementia. Both of their kind and compassionate natures make this bond extra special, and it really shows in how they respond to one another, look at each other and the genuine joy they feel by being around each other.
During this engagement session, we started at their favourite spot: a wine studio where they always have a glass of bubbles together and spent a lot of time during their courting phase.
From there, we walked the route they usually follow on their date nights. A few snaps in front of the iconic 18th-Century church in Stellenbosch, craft beer at a local spot, and gourmet ice cream at a local startup.
As with most queer coming-out stories, theirs was not always filled with joy and excitement. Coming out often comes at great cost to those involved. However, to them, it was part of their strength – knowing how much they love each other and choosing love in every challenge.
It was easy to see that this beautiful couple have already experienced a love and devotion that many take for granted or simply learn over decades. Their first priority is each other.
This is a love story that will not wilt, but only flourish. It was the kind that makes you want to go home and kiss your wife.
