Christie & Katie – An Intimate Backyard Wedding

When it became clear that COVID-19 would definitely still be a concern for their planned big wedding, they began to come up with a backup plan which would take place in their backyard – turns out, it was better than they could have imagined.

THE PROPOSAL

We went to dinner at the restaurant that we had our first date. After dinner, we walked on the waterfront in Washington, and Christie pulled out a picture frame. Christie had taken a picture of both of their cats sitting in a chair with a sign that read, “Will you meowy our mama?” Katie burst into tears and said, “How did you get them to sit together?” Christie laughed and took Katie’s ring off her necklace that she had been hiding. Christie knelt down, and Katie said, “Yes!”

DECIDING TO ELOPE

The pandemic caused us to rethink our plans. We didn’t want to put the wedding on hold, but we still wanted to share our special day with our family. Health and safety was our number one concern. We opted for a 25 person wedding and a virtual option for those unable to attend in person.

THE ELOPEMENT

Looking back, we were so thankful that we were able to have the wedding of our dreams. We missed hugging our extended family, but we believe this wedding was better than we could have imagined.

We created an itinerary for virtual guests to know when to expect a toast and when the first dance would happen. That way, they could hop on or hop off, depending on their preference. We had a meet and greet period with the virtual guests to wave hello and send hugs and kisses through Zoom.

We were thankful that we were able to put little details into the centerpieces and in the decorations. Because the guest list was small, we could upgrade the dinner menu and the overall aesthetics.

It’s definitely crazy to say, “This is my wife,” but it’s such a fantastic feeling. Our families have always wanted the best for us, and they are so thrilled that we are happy together.
