A Wedding With Two Queer Aboriginal Women & A Smoking Ceremony
These proud Aboriginal women married at Camden Valley Inn, surrounded by statement florals and their favorite people. They also incorporated a traditional smoking ceremony into their wedding ceremony.
Who Are Paige And Sam?
We’re both proud Aboriginal women and always put our culture at the forefront of what we do. Paige is a proud Walbunja woman, and Sam is a Dharug woman. We pride ourselves in being positive role models for our future Aboriginal children – we can do anything!
We met at Western Sydney University while we were both studying to become teachers. We both did an Aboriginal education course where we learned how to be the best educators we can be alongside some deadly mates we made along the way.
Tell Us About The Proposal.
Paige originally planned a proposal in Tokyo Disneyland (Disneyland is one of our favorite places), but then the big COVID hit and crushed her dreams. Paige then organized a little mini holiday where we were away in a cute AIRBNB in Wildes Meadow down the south coast of New South Wales.
Paige got a puzzle made with a photo of us at Disneyland and the words “will you marry me?” Sam had to put it together, and by the time she was finished Paige was on one knee. It began to rain and it was magical.
Sam then proposed in October while we were sitting under the Sydney Harbour Bridge enjoying a cute picnic. It rained AGAIN but added to the magic.
What Sort Of Feel Did You Want For Your Wedding Day?
We chose the venue because of its cute cottagecore feel. We loved burgundy and autumn tones so just went with it from there. We loved flowers and the way they transform a room. We wanted the wedding to be relaxed and chill, comfortable.
We made all our own signs and the floral arrangements around them. Paige designed our wedding invitations and stationery. And we made our seating signs, wishing well. It was all the cute little touches.
What Are Some Of Your Favorite Moments From The Wedding Day?
Paige thought she was literally going to die the morning of the wedding, nearly hyperventilating before walking down the aisle.
We had a smoking ceremony at the end of our wedding ceremony, this signified clarity, cleanse and us moving forward into our future together.
We also have a fun memory of Paige speeding away in our getaway 68 Chevy Impala and Sam screaming for her life at her.
