Amy and Karly’s Love Story

We’ve been together for three and a half years and have known each other for fifteen years. We met through Karly, playing on the same sports teams as Amy’s brother. From there, we became inseparable “besties,” and Karly became part of the furniture!

Tell Us About The Proposal.

Karly had a fantastic afternoon planned to walk the dogs in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens, with dinner to follow. Unfortunately, while loading the dogs into the car and putting harnesses on, there was a bicker, which resulted in Amy giving a partial silent treatment on the way into the city. Amy’s brother and sister-in-law were there hiding in the bushes to photograph the moment, and then we headed to our favourite vegan pizza restaurant to celebrate! It was the perfect mix of chaos and love.

How Long Was Your Engagement?

Our engagement was a little over two years. We decided to be strategic in booking ahead of time coming out of Covid and to ensure that we could secure all of our amazing vendors!

What Led You To The Venue? Have You Been There Before?

Rupert and Rupert stood out to us more than any other venue when we were in the early stages of our Instagram wedding deep dive. The abundance of greenery mixed with the moodiness really spoke to us. It was the only venue that we visited, and we booked that day!

Talk To Us About Your Experience Finding The Perfect Outfits.

Amy- I did hunt around and try on various styles of dresses. I knew that I wanted something sleek and modern, but I wasn’t overly confident in which style would suit my body type the best. Love You More Bridal was the last appointment I had booked, and as soon as I met Kim and tried on her dresses, I was confident I would be able to find something. I fell in love with my dress when I tried it on and knew it was the dress for me.

Karly- I’m pretty straightforward, so I literally went into Oroton, tried on the first suit I liked, and loved it! All the other accessories fell into place semi last minute, making it a very stress-free process.

Talk To Us About The Big Day!

The day was PERFECT. We had gotten ready at separate accommodation with close friends/family as we didn’t have bridal parties. Karly had a surprise wedding gift and got driven to our first look in a hot pink Cadillac. We had our first look in the Fitzroy Gardens, and from there, the day flew by. We were so at ease having Hailey and Mardy guide us through our photos. Karly met the guests at Rupert with Murph and Gigi, and they got to stick around for family photos. We moved into dinner, speeches, first dance and then the most fun dance floor. Karly peaked at 9 p.m., resulting in Amy having her sneakily cut off at the bar to avoid a full-blown wipeout. We wouldn’t have changed a thing. There was so much love, laughter, happy tears and dancing.

What Are Your Favorite Moments?

Our first look was so perfect to just be the two of us in our own moment on our own day. Saying our vows, being so vulnerable, and committing to something so life-changing in front of our closest people was nerve-wracking, but it was the best.

Once we all moved to the dance floor and were able to let our hair down and don our party crocks, we really got to let it all sink in!

Do You Have A Stand-Out Vendor?

We loved ALL of our vendors, so to single out one would be unfair. They all went out of their way to make the day perfect for us. Katie was our venue manager at Rupert, and from the first meeting with her, she just got us and reassured us that everything would go off without a hitch. Megan our celebrant, took over as our MC and hung out with us all night. Hailey and Mardy were amazing with how they mixed in with everyone and made everything feel so natural. Cal learned runaway on the guitar to play it for us down the aisle and made sure to keep our guests engaged with the music. They were all so amazing!

Did You Incorporate Any Family Or Religious Traditions Into The Day?

There were no real traditions or anything, though Amy’s nan was our ring bearer, and she made our ring cushion out of material from her wedding dress which was really special.

What Does Marriage Mean To You?

Karly- Marriage to me, is the ultimate commitment to one another, expressing our promises in our vows, proving that soulmates do exist. It’s just the cherry on top of our perfect little life.

Amy- Marriage to me, means being kind to the person you love daily. It’s a given that life will provide you with ups and downs, and it’s all about navigating that together. With Karly, I know that I have the person by my side who will always love and support me through anything.

Advice For Other Couples Planning A Wedding?

We have come away from our wedding with the best memories and most amazing photos and videos that we will cherish forever.

Also, make use of your bar tab during the night!!!

Anything You Are Glad You Did? Or Wish You Didn’t Do?

We’re glad that we took the time with our engagement to actually enjoy the process without the added stress of a strict timeline. This allowed us to be able to explore what our aesthetic was and make informed choices rather than it being on the fly.
